Grantland on the Saints bleak future (feel good reading for Panthers fan)

The 2015 Saints already have $160 million committed to their cap. That’s without new deals for several starters who will be unrestricted free agents, including Mark Ingram, Jonathan Goodwin, and Parys Haralson. That’s about $9 million more committed to their 2015 cap than any other team.

Somebody is worse at this whole cap game than Marty Hurney and happens to be in our division?

The Patriots are the only team that hasn't went through cycles over the last 15 years. Pretty much every other team is up and down. 3-5 year window to compete for a title, then 2-3 year rebuild process. Rinse and repeat.

Carolina was a legit contender from 03-05. Then they retooled and had another window in 08-09. Unfortunately several of those years the team suffered a bunch of crucial injuries.

The Saints have ran their course and need a rebuild. It's even worse because Brees is at the end of his career. They'll be the Aints again before you know it.

    • What people fail to understand is Lance had a college career that lasted about as long as teenage boys first intercourse.  To say he was raw was an understatement.  So much so that even a QB whisperer had a difficult time molding him into a polished NFL product on top of multiple nagging injuries.  The dud is in his mid-twenties, finally healthy and little miles on the tread.  Low risk, high reward.  If he's available, it would be stupid not to kick the tires.  It took Darnold and Mayfield to hit their 3rd or 4th team for things to finally click.  This is Lance's 3rd stop, I believe.  It's either time for it to click for him or be relegated to a full time backup. Roll the dice....
    • Wrong.  At least we put a QB sneak in the play book and and add plays over 20 yards.
    • I don’t know if people realize that Evan’s was one of the top TE prospects in college  before having some horrible injuries. I wanna say he had two major injuries in back to back seasons which limited his play and dropped his draft stock.
