Old man rant: people wearing headphones while driving

As one who loves music and even likes it loud someone help me out here.

Isn't wearing headphones ya know, like dangerous?

I use the aux outlet with my phone and play Pandora and jam but I can at least hear if an ambulance is coming.

I see more and more people at the light jamming up traffic or worse blocking a fire truck.

Or am I officially an old man now?

You may be an old man, but that's not the reason you find it annoying.

It's really dumb and should be illegal (may be already). I can understand one ear, but definitely not both.

I wear headphones while driving on road trips. It's usually because the kids are crying and screaming and I need to get away.

Yeah that can work. I see people in crazy traffic and it's a disaster waiting to happen.

It amazes me to see people on motor vehicles, especially motorcycles, with headphones/ear buds on. Out in public as well - was really surprised to see how many people walk around with headphones on.

I always thought common sense would prevail and it's illegal, and growing up in CA it was illegal when I lived there. But I see there is no law against it in NC and 30-some other states.

If I'm on a long road trip and someone is riding with me I might go with headphones. But that's it.
