Don't worry smart teams dont show what they can do in the pre-season

I dont know why you guys are all freaking out about being 0-2 in the pre-season. The preseason means nothing. The year the Pat's went 16-0 they went 0-4 in the pre-season they didnt show people what they were capable of. The four times the Bill's made it to the super bowl they went 0-4 in the pre-season. Why do you think we haven't done any trick plays? Why does D-Will always seem to run the ball up the middle other then doing counters and jukes? A lot of people on the huddle are making assumptions how were gonna have a bad regular season just because of our pre-season record. With Jake looking better I think we are going to be better then last season. The only problem we have right now is our DT's and Hurney is looking to fix that. I hope there are people on the Huddle that agree with me.

Not to mention that no one seems to care about being 0-2, I haven't heard anybody say that bothered them. The thing that keeps getting brought up is poor tackling and the run defense. And I'm sure everyone is aware that Detroit was 4-0 and the Patriots were 0-4 so lets drop it already.

preseason records are really arbitrary and don't mean much either way in this argument the 2003 Patriots went 4-0 in the preseason, the Bucs went 3-1 in 02, the Pats went 3-1 in 01, and the Ravens went 3-0 in 2000. It doesn't tell you whether they gameplanned or how much they creaked open that playbook

I don't get why people think "not showing your cards" is suppose to be a reason we look like complete crap defensively. Same with the word vanillla. Even if we play vanilla (which we will also in the regular season) and don't show our cards in the preseason........the defense has just been poor and there is a cause for concern.

Actually showing a lot can work to your advantage..Especially if you're still hiding the good ones..

1. it gives the false assumption that you showed too much.

2. it makes the pool of plays that the other team has to study and look out for much larger.

3. Like the Wildcat, the other team usually has to worry if that play (if successful in preseason) will hurt them and they have to gameplan for it even if you may not use it.

So showing "too much" isn't necessarily a dumb thing..

Not to mention the fact that we could easily be 1-1. Fox could have gone for 2 in the Giants game, and we would have won it....or we could have gone to overtime and won it. And really, who gives a flying f**k?

we DID go for 2 in the giants game. that's how we tied it up. we lost cuz cantwell fumbled on the first play after the giants had a punt.

I have never cared about the final score of a pre season game. In fact, without looking it up, I couldn't even tell you the scores of these first two games. I do care about how the starters block and tackle though. Those are the two most basic and fundamental elements of football, and have absolutely nothing to do with whether they game plan or not. And so far, the blocking and tackling hasn't been as good as I had hoped.

I'm not even close to panic mode, mind you, and I can give the O-line a little bit of a pass since everybody seems to be stacking the LOS and blitzing us like it's going out of style, but there is no such a thing as a defensive game plan that calls for your starters to not tackle the ball carrier.

Excellent. To your point. The Titans did an awesome fake punt in the HOF Game. That will be in the back of every teams mind every game.

You show some wrinkles but not too much.

I know this much. There was a good reason the Panthers dropped 47 on the Skins last year.

    • I feel like this trade just lives rent free in people's heads and keeps morphing into different things. First thing is that the rumored trade was for future firsts. They wouldn't have any extra picks in 2023; the firsts would have been for 2024 and 2025. With very few exceptions, NFL GMs don't value picks that far away. You have to have a lot of job security to pull that off. Like Chiefs, Eagles, Rams kinda stability. That's obviously not the case with David Tepper, especially since he'd just fired his head coach. No GM except for like Howie Roseman is going to trade an asset you have now for a future asset you probably get to use.  Second, at the time you'd have to assume these are first rounders late in the first round. Obviously currency is currency and the panthers need young players, but these weren't slam dunk top ten picks. At the end of the day there's one pick that separates a first and second round pick.  Lastly, the only place that ever reported this trade was the Rams. All the reporters just repeated what McVay said and it became gospel. We have no idea how serious the negotiations were, if they ever really happened, if the offer was real, etc. And I personally believe McVay and Sneed are the kind of guys who would make up rumors like that to fug up other teams, mostly because I assume if I've thought of it someone smarter than me has.  I don't know how you'd call it the greatest draft haul of all time. Firsts quickly lose their value the farther out they are and Burns had 16.5 sacks last season. And anyway those picks would probably just been tossed into the burning inferno of the Bryce trade up so it's a moot point anyway.
