4. Carolina Panthers

Rush Blocking: Excellent

Pass Blocking: Above Average

This group should be even better since they’ve had a season to get comfortable at their positions, after years of shuffling around. RT Jeff Otah(notes) is a blue-chip rush blocker, and LT Jordan Gross(notes) went to the Pro Bowl. This line is built to rush the ball, and RBs DeAngelo Williams(notes) and Jonathan Stewart(notes) certainly took advantage, giving the team 4.8 YPC. Both players fit well into this power-blocking scheme. If Stewart is healthy, that YPC average might even top 5.0. As for QB Jake Delhomme(notes), he’ll have all the time in the world to decide where he’d like to throw multiple interceptions.

Articles a joke

The strength of the Falcons line was a major surprise, and partly due to the return of the zone-blocking scheme, which better fits the team’s personnel. This unit is full of promising young players and has the potential to get even better. They have a bit of a problem generating push up the middle, so if RB Michael Turner(notes) goes down, there could be some short-yardage scoring issues. The line is also good in pass protection, particularly against the blitz, so QB Matt Ryan(notes) is a happy camper.
We don't use a zone blocking scheme. Our personnel is full of 310+ pounders on the OL. He hit it with full of young players with potential though.

Obviously you watch the dirty birds much more than my two times a year, but the ZB scheme isn't all about personnel across the line. Michigan ran lots of ZB a couple of years ago with a huge lumbering big 10 line. Actually if anything the ZB is designed around what's in the backfield, and whether they ran it or not Norwood is the type of back that could take advantage.

However, those numbers aren't exactly stellar by NFL quarterbacking standards. Even though the Panthers backdoored their way into the postseason in 2025 as NFC South champions with an 8-9 record, Young's performance was up-and-down. He threw for the third-fewest passing yards by a quarterback to make the playoffs in the last 20 seasons, per CBS Sports Research.  FEWEST PASSING YARDS BY QB TO REACH PLAYOFFS, LAST 20 SEASONS (MIN. 16 STARTS) PASSING YARDS PLAYOFF WINS 2012 Christian Ponder (MIN) 2,935 0 2008 Joe Flacco (BAL) 2,971 2 2025 Bryce Young (CAR) 3,011 0 2006 Steve McNair (BAL) 3,050 0 2019 Josh Allen (BUF) 3,089 0 Young did deliver some high highs, like when he threw for a franchise-record 448 yards passing in a Week 11 overtime win at the Atlanta Falcons and when he went toe-to-toe with Stafford in the playoffs in a 34-31 defeat.  Kenny Pickett couldn't win the Cleveland Browns' quarterback competition a year ago, and Will Grier is a career backup.
