Make the adjustments with what we have on the D line, and count on speed and quickness to stop the run vs. the space occupying ability that Kemo brought. Just in case we do not get what we are looking for as far as a trade or the upcoming cuts. Im just wondering if we game plan this whay would it require too much from our 'backers for run support, and despite our depth at that position would it wear the LBs down over the season.

Honestly, as it stands now, the only choice is to rotate in backup DTs until you find one that has a technique edge over the team we're facing at the moment. In the meantime, the linebackers and safeties are going to wear down very quickly.

I still think moving Brayton over to DT at least gives us a hope. He's got experience on the line and he doesn't move backwards easily.

Or, and this is most likely, we'll work out a trade with either Cleveland or Green Bay for a spare DT/NT type to fill the gap. It'll probably cost us some depth at linebacker or a couple of draft picks next year.

Look, Kemo was handling the job quite well, but there is an answer to fill his rather wide shoes. When we let Jenkins go, Kemo came along; someone else will find a new home here.

Garcia talked about this on WFNZ with Buckner today. He said that with Kemo out, they NEED to change their scheme (as in, different than they've been doing in the pre-season and different than we've done recently as a team). The question he posed is, would they. And they, of course, being Fox and Meeks. I just don't see it happening. It seems much more possible that they'll stick to what they know and hope the players can step up and meet them.

Buckner mentioned that Meeks is running defense that has been run before and seen before. He's no savior. He isn't (insert coach name who I forget) who brought something new to the table 15-20 years ago. In other words, don't expect miracles.

Lastly, both expressed frustration with the back-ups. Pre-season is their BIG chance to say, "I don't want to ride the bench, I'm that damn good. Put me in." Kemo is done, the backup DTs should be going balls to the wall to get in frint of the other backups and so far they've done next to nothing. And the "it's preseason" retort doesn't work in this case because that's when they fight for a spot.

I'd love to see the scheme changed for what we have on the field. So far it looks a lot like last year. Kemo going down hurts us as we all already know, but in the back of my mind I just feel Foxy will continue to keep things as they are and hope people can meet HIS expectations for what he wants to do.

I'll gladly eat crow if we fly to the ball in droves when the Iggles come to town, but I don't see us being that much more aggressive than we've been so far. I still think we'll make the Playoffs, but I think we're going to get our asses scored on all season long. Meeks will have many a sleepless night ahead of him.

Does he have a choice? No chance for bend but don't break with the thin line.

the db's really have to step and create a ton of turnovers.

Also, the offense playing ball control is the D's other weapon right now.

Haha, Bend But Don't Break, Rucker said that's what we were doing against Miami and I think he said that's what we will do this season.

D-Lo and Stewart are going to have nothing left in the tank at season's end. They'll look good for my Fantasy stats though!!!

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.

      My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
