Signing an extension wouldn't get rid of the fifth year option. That would still remain unless they tore up the current contract, which rarely happens.

I wish writers would think before they type something so fricking stupid.

 

O course they would tear up the existing contract.  That happens all the time.

 

And as to precedent with the 5tth year option, Cam's class is the first one drafted with a potential 5th year option.

The Dolphins are discussing a long-term extension with fourth-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill , a source told the South Florida Sun Sentinel , with the "framework being a seven-year contract worth about $105 million (depending on incentives)."

The paper said the general idea is a $15 million annual salary with only the first two years guaranteed.

Miami has three options regarding Tannehill, per the paper. The team can let him play out the last year of his contract at $2.1 million and allow him to hit free agency; pick up his fifth-year option for 2016 at roughly $15 million, money that would be guaranteed in case of injury; or negotiate an extension.

Keep trying. The QB should be the only player on your roster that's a $20M cost.

Charles Johnson's contract is the problem, no matter how much you pay Cam.

I am just as much of Cam fan as the rest around here but,

HOLY POO, EITHER Y'ALL GOT AN INFLATED OPINION ON HOW MUCH QBs GET PAID OR HOW MUCH CAM IS REALLY WORTH!

50mil GUARANTEED puts him in A Rodgers/P.Manning/Tom Brady level.....he isn't at that level yet

20 mil a year puts him above Manning/Brees/etc level.....he isn't there yet!

If it wasn't for Cam's ability to make something happen with his feet, then he wouldn't be close to the conversation about Elite QBs. Cam needs to take a contract that is on par with who he is, top 3 of mid-tier QBs. Rivers and Big Ben contracts would be a good place to start

And if that doesn't work, then Dave needs to find a new QB

It doesn't work that way.  Guys like Wilson and Luck aren't on the level of Rodgers/Brees/Brady either, but wait till you see what they get.

As long as everyone pays attention to part that matters most....guaranteed.

Dave could offer him 5yr/200mil, only 5 mil guaranteed.

Tampa could off 3yr/40mil, only 25mil guaranteed

What's the better deal?

This is such bad reasoning...Rivers and Big Ben would not get Rivers and Big Ben money today...

 

Every year, the market goes up. Period. For everyone. Drew Brees had the highest paid contract for about 4 seconds before it was one-upped. Romo had the highest for 2 seconds before Cutter one-upped that.

 

Luck is going to get paid FAR FAR  FAR FAR more than Rodgers... Are the Colts crazy? Should they be looking for a new QB?

 

Just stop.

      I think the ‘issue’ here is that we had two guys that clashed for several reasons. In some ways they were different, but in other ways they had a lot in common, and sadly they couldn’t see the forest for the trees. Sometimes when you have two people like that together they are either going to love or hate each other, and if it’s the latter, you need someone to mediate and hope the two individuals are capable of putting their differences aside for the common good. In this instance, they couldn’t find a way to move forwards together because I don’t think either guy wanted to play second fiddle to the other. This video basically said neither guy had the tools to bridge that gap and mend that fence, and perhaps also were unwilling to give an inch at that stage in their lives and careers. So a divorce, while unfortunate, was always likely. Do we win the Super Bowl with Smitty and Cam? Well, it’s one of life’s big what ifs for us Panthers fans.

      Dude, I think I might be having Jarvy withdrawals... I ripped the sleeves off of all of my t-shirts in my sleep last night. Every bite of my Alpha-Bita cereal spelled Seth, this morning.
