Any Mountain bikers?

I'm curious if there are any mountain bikers in huddle land and if so what they think about the "Fat Bike" craze?

I test rode one last fall and loved it but couldn't afford what the bike shops were asking so went the BikesDirect  way (i.e. ship direct from China) for an off brand with decent specs.

With the port slowdown I've been waiting too damn long and now it is finally set to arrive on Monday, cannot wait.

For those who don't know and are curious fat bikes were developed to ride through snow and sand but I liked my test ride so much I spec'd one for everyday trail riding as well.

rode my motorcycle through the mountains many many times...does that count?

guy I work with has a fat bike and loves it...his big thing with it in these parts is riding in the snow...says he can go way more places in the winter on the fat bike than any of his other bikes

I mountain bike regularly, but nothing too hardcore. Standard cross country stuff with a mix of flow and tech, no downhill or poo that will kill me...

Fat bikes are awesome and catching on quite quickly out in the Rockies. I've been considering getting one because of the snow and longer winters out here, but my money is being diverted elsewhere at the moment. However, I have shopped at BikesDirect before and have nothing but good things to say about them, so if I was in the market for one, I would definitely consider one of their Motobecane models.

While they were designed for the snow/sand, you can literally use them for any type of trail. They'll roll over anything.

It's a weird feeling.  excited to ride it but a little guilty for bypassing the LBS.  I did go to one but they really tried to rip me off.  Here is what I'm looking forward to putting together on monday;

Oh, and I'm not hardcore.  On the few occasions I've joined a race I always bring up the rear,  it is more an excuse to get out and ride all day.  And I hit a bunch of trail in CO last fall I had to bail and hike-a-bike.  But I'm hooked anyway.

I bike in the Rockies all the time. Didn't think mountain biking was a thing in the Carolinas

When I moved back east from Reno I thought the same thing.  But there are over 50 "epic" rides designated by the International Mountain Biking Association, 3 of them overseas.  To qualify these trails have to be 80% singletrack and 20+ miles.   The fact that there are four of these trails in the Carolina's (and a lot more that kick ass) means mountain biking is alive and well in the Carolina's.  Brevard is becoming a real destination with both Pisgah and Dupont close by.

Even here on the coast we do pretty well with what we have.  Still miss my rides in Tahoe and Black Rock desert though.

    • Bryce has been in the NFL 3 years and still looks like a very mediocre QB. Most games are nothing but mediocre plays with a highlight reel every now and then.  He is a very INCONSISTENT QB and it’s very fustrating. He does not deserve a 5th year option, even though the Panthers and all the dumb asses in the front office will give it to him.
    • I’ve rarely ever been more sure of anything than losing out — but how can anyone say with a straight face “Bryce hasn’t improved, but Canales has and he’s masks his flaws”. You have to be so out of touch with reality to put one way above the other when discussing those two.
    • Last night was the classic example of a visiting team just holding on through the wave of emotion a home team has at the start of a big time game. Bama’s first two kickoff returns really set them back as far as playcalling and allowed OU to dictate field position. The emotion of the home crowd fed into what OU was doing at that point, and it felt like Bama would not be able to overcome that.     Once the kickoff returner was told to fair catch every kick, the game shifted, as Bama wasn’t starting each drive inside their own 15. It was then that Bama was able to make some plays, outscoring OU 34-7 the rest of the way.  I think the last 3/4 of the game proves Bama was the better team. OU was just able to ride the initial wave of emotion to a big lead, but Bama held on just enough.  However, had OU blocked the punt on Bama’s second drive and scored a TD (vice a FG on the ensuing drive), things likely would have been different.  Anyway, Roll Tide!
