Frank Hollywood's 2.1 Mock draft: Post Combine

Recommended Posts

It's the offseason, the forum is a bit slow so I believe it's ok to post my mock here. If I'm wrong, mods please delete.

(Note: I switched rounds 4 and 5 from the version I posted previously as I believe this scenario is more realistic, hence 2.1)

My previous mock can be found here:

With the combine now behind us, player's stock begin to take a lot more shape as we come closer to the 2015 draft. Here is my latest version. As always, comments and criticism welcome. Thanks for reading!

Round 1:

Previous Pick: Dorial Green-Beckham

New Pick: Jaelen Strong WR Arizona State

ncf_g_jaelenstrong_ms_400x600.jpg

While DGB is a freak athlete, Gettlemen specifically mentioned we don’t need headache players on our team. Being caught with an entire pound of marijuana is too much for our organization to pull the trigger on the guy.

Strong on the other hand impressed at the combine. He’s got great hands and isn’t afraid to fight for the ball. Him alongside Kelvin Benjamin along with a speedster taken later in the draft make our WR corps something defenses will fear.

Round 2:

Previous Pick: Justin Hardy

New Pick: Jake Fisher T Oregon

hi-res-153206706_crop_north.jpg?w=630&h=

I still like Justin Hardy. A lot. But if we select Strong with our first pick we should heavily consider Jake Fisher.

While he needs some polish, Fisher would almost certainly be the top tackle left on the board and has shown worthy of being a late second round pick.

Round 3:

Previous Pick: Jake Fisher

New Pick: Phillip Dorsett WR Miami

957%20umfoot101214%20UM%20Cincinnati%20A

Jake Fisher won’t be available by the time we pick here. Another prospect might be.

Dorsett impressed with his speed at the combine, running a WR best 4.33 in the 40 and also the best 3 cone of any WR.  His size will hurt his draft stock (5'9 175 pounds) and I haven’t seen much else other than elite speed from him. While many analysts are high on him and see him as a second to early third rounder, he could realistically fall to us and help us to take the top off of defenses, stretch the field and possibly be an elite return man for our team for years to come.

Round 4:

Previous Pick: Eric Murray, CB

New Pick:Nick O’leary TE

This isn’t a great draft for TE prospects, however, we could still get another value pick due to a poor combine showing. Nick O’leary wasn’t impressive during the combine and it may hurt his stock quite a bit. If he were to fall to us in round 4 we should absolutely pull the trigger as he’d be a great compliment to Olsen. Where Brandon Williams and Dickson aren’t getting it done, O’leary could.

Round 5:

Previous Pick: Terry Williams, DT, East Carolina

New Pick:

Kevin White CB TCU

Kevin White impressed at the Senior Bowl, but had a poor combine showing. Perhaps this performance will allow him to fall to us in Round 5. His history of doing well covering the nation’s top college WR prospect (see Kevin White vs. Kevin White) warrants this pick.

Round 6:

Previous Pick: Tyler Hunter, S, Florida State (also nickel and PR) –SS

New Pick: Jalston Fowler, FB, Alabama

Jalston+Fowler+Georgia+Southern+v+Alabam

Jalston Fowler still looks like the best FB in this draft . With Tolbert’s uncertainty, this could be a great pick as Fowler is not only a good blocker, but can pave the way for our running backs of the future.

Round 6 Compensatory Pick: Tyler Hunter, S, Florida State (also nickel and PR) –SS

ncf_i_tylerhunter_ms_400x600.jpg

Roman Harper won’t be around forever (although I’m not complaining) and Tyler Hunter could potentially replace him when he’s gone. This guy also plays nickel and can return punts. Tyler could prove useful to the Panthers in many ways

Round 7: Previous Pick: Jake Smith, C, Louisville

New Pick: John Crockett, RB, North Dakota State

rp_primary_John_Crockett_2014_YSU_Stiffa

Gettlemen takes a late round RB yet again. Showing good burst and physicality, Crockett is a good pickup in the last round of the draft. Time to show Darrin Reaves the door.

Round 7 Compensatory Pick: Brandon Vitabile, C, Northwestern

BrandonVitabileMissState010113.jpg

Brandon may not be a day one starter, but who at the end of the seventh round is? He’d be a good backup for Kalil and will hopefully replace him as a starter in a few years. He would probably be the best inside offensive lineman on the board this late in the draft.

Not convinced DGB is this off the field nightmare some depict him to be. Going to another team and staying completely out of trouble while not even getting to play the whole season says a lot to that.

If he's still on the board at 25 there is no better player available PERIOD. This guy is going to be an amazing NFL receiver I just hope the panthers realize this and take him if he's there. Strong doesn't wow me like Kevin white, DGB, or some of the others in his class.

I agree completely that he's the BPA, but I don't think Gettle will take the chance. His comments during the combine about trouble players slammed the door shut on the thought of him landing here. I here you though, I want him in a Panther's uniform badly.

how many of those do you suspect will be BPA when we pick?

All of them if they're there. None of these are a reach IMO, and more likely some will not be on the board when we pick.

Saw you have a TE in your draft. I know it's not a big need but Maxx Williams is a great TE prospect but we would probably have to spend a first on.

He's the number 1 TE in this draft according to most analysts but I don't like him in Round 1 and I'm still not sure he's BPA in Round 2 but wouldn't be disappointed if we got him there. Jesse James is another name I keep hearing if O'leary is gone and could probably be had in the fifth or sixth.

I agree with you that 1st and 2nd, and likely 4th will be lucky if they are there for our pick.  Would be nice if this group fell for us.

Actually, I just saw more tape on Maxx and wouldn't hate him in the first and would love him in the second. Dude is legit.

I absolutely love this draft..

except the O'leary part.. We have more talented TE's already on the roster and he is more of a H-back..

Yeah, I should have watched more tape on him before my mock. I agree.

So do I man. Him and KB would be a dream team.

Hopefully the panthers vet this situation fully and come to the conclusion he has turned the new leaf and feel comfortable he wouldn't fall back in bad habits. It seems to me he turned the corner.

    • Just as we won those close games we could have just as easily lost them. So the jury is out on if we were more lucky than good ( see the sweep by the saints) Were moving forward on paper. And how badly dont we all want to see us back to at least Above average form. Its about time.
    • If you're looking for a pat on the back it sounds good in theory until you realize they also had the 2023 Panthers as the top draft class.
    • Going into the 2003 and 2015 seasons we were supposed to be the joke of the league each time. In 2003, John Fox was supposed to still be in rebuild mode. We had a guy named Peppers on the defensive line who was supposed to be pretty good. We had Rodney Peete as our starting QB and a line that was a lot of hope and not much experience. Our new running back was a guy the Redskins, errrr Commanders, had jettisoned for being too old. We had a good kicker and writers thought that was needed because there were going to be more field goals than touch downs. Heck, it looked like they were right up until just before halftime of that first game when we had to yank Rodney Peete and put in some Cajun duded whose name couldn't be pronounced. And Steve Smith? He wasn't Smitty yet. Moose Muhammad, well, he was close to being written off as a bust. You know how that turned out. And then in 2015, we had Cam Newton, who was electrifying to watch but hadn't really won anything yet. There was an offensive line in front of him that looked like it was made in a defunct Swiss cheese factory and our big hope on offense was the great Kelvin Benjamin. And then he got taken out for the year with a knee injury in training camp. Ted "Feet of Lightning, Hands of Stone" Ginn became our default go to guy beside our next best hope, yeah, Devin Funchess. Our defense was pretty good, a scrappy bunch with frikkin' awesome linebacker play and a cornerback who had done more than drank the Kool-Aid, but had snorted the powder. He played like a superhero and became sort of a bat-man during the season. By the Super Bowl he had completely lost his freaking mind, though, and managed to talk his way out of a contract with the team next year. No one was expecting us to win the NFCSouth that season, much less almost go undefeated and into the Super Bowl. So, 2026? Who knows? But our best seasons came when no one had a reason to believe in us, except us.
