Jacobs: "I'm Playing"

Have you seen this guy? He is much different than the rest of the backs in the league. He's a linebacker that decided he wanted to be a RB. I really hope you are right, but I fear him just running our D over. much like when NY faced the ravens.

We're just going to have to swarm to the ball, like you're supposed to do.

He's not even a top tier back. I don't get it. He's just big and can mow over people. That doesn't make you good. That just makes you big. As long as we hit hard we'll be alright. We've been stopping the run game all year. All teams do is pass on us, and our corners can, hopefully, hang with their receivers.

Regardless of how he runs, the fact of the matter is Brandon Jacobs is a very effective back. Why does it matter how he gets the yards and TDs, so long as he gets them? I think it's ludicrous to consider him anything less than one of the league's best backs at the moment.

He has the power to run anyone over, even if Laron Landry (the guy he runs over in the video link above) is a small safety. But if we were to face the Giants in the Playoffs, we would have to stop him. I think this will be a great test for our D and if we come out with a "W" it can only provide even more motivation for a Super Bowl Run.

We certainly can't just hope to face teams that are missing their best skill players all the way to a Lombardi trophy. If we're going to be the champions, we're going to have to beat the best opponents, and likely going to have to beat them on their best days. If we can't do that, we're not really the best. I think we can slow Jacobs down enough that our offense can outscore the Giant's offense. At the end of the day thats all our defense really has to do.

This is true. These games are what they play for.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
