Justin Smith also retiring from 49ers

Now I'm seeing things like "not 100%" and "considering all his options".

But before you start to panic that the dumpster fire that is the SF 49ers this offseason is going out, their FB Bruce Miller was arrested for spousal abuse.

Yeah I've heard things like Darnell dockett came to him and asked him to play another year. Also their FO letting him take shortened practices and things like that.

I have no idea but like pstall this offseason has been insane

Turns out Justin Smith is also retiring.

Between he, Willis, and the loss of Gore, I think it's something like 25 probowl selections, 10 All-pros, and over 30 years of experience.

Justin Smith was a huge reason for Aldon Smith's success, so this is doubly delightful.

Edit: looks like it's actually 17 Pro Bowls, 8 first team All-Pro selections, 2 2nd team All-Pro selections, and 29 years of experience between them. Lulz.

It is literally like they're trying to get rid of anything with Jim Harbaugh cooties.

 

The front office seems to want absolutely everyone to know that it was them, not Harbaugh, that made this team a winner over the last few seasons.  So they want almost anyone and everything associated with Harbaugh to begone.

 

Now, while I actually do believe that Harbaugh is better suited to long term success as a college coach than as a pro coach, I still think the decisions they're making out of ego could very well come back and bite them on the ass.

 

We'll see by this time next year, I guess.

I'm trying to recall if I've ever heard of a player retiring for religious reasons. 

 

The only thing I can think of that even resembles that is the story of another Patrick, i.e. Pat Tillman, who retired to join the military out of patriotism (and Lord knows that story didn't get the ending it deserved).

 

But basically, if someone else has indeed retired for purely religious reasons before, I don't remember it.

I'm trying to recall if I've ever heard of a player retiring for religious reasons.

The only thing I can think of that even resembles that is the story of another Patrick, i.e. Pat Tillman, who retired to join the military out of patriotism (and Lord knows that story didn't get the ending it deserved).

But basically, if someone else has indeed retired for purely religious reasons before, I don't remember it.

Ricky Williams went on some spiritual weed mission if I recall. Don't know if that counts.
