Cam is going to get paid

The sad thing is many Panthers fans out there would be happy if Cam doesnt get paid by us......

Ding! Ding! Ding! Which is why some (not all or even a majority) but some is comfortable with the level of talent the Panthers have surrounded Newton with to date, and is adamant that nothing be done to upgrade it.

I really wouldn't put is past some to hope that the Panthers are as unsuccessful as possible while he is the QB. Remember they are dying to scream "I told you so!!!"

It's only stupid to someone too stupid to understand it. You all boast about a team's ability to force a player to stay with it without ever giving the player an ACTUAL contract. It doesn't matter how much more than an actual indentured servant they're being paid, philosophically, it's exactly the same.

I must be too stupid to understand it. Odd, I thought I was doing so well in life.

For those wanting Cam to get paid THIS year. May I ask with what funds are we paying him? He's already on the books for $15 mil or there abouts.

The team does have a few more $ to spend, but they've got to get some supporting players, which they have. They also need to sign rookies, and sign a few more FAs.

Calm the fug down. Cam is going to get paid, and it's going to be here. DG has had to work out of cap hell and we're still working through it.

How much cap room are we looking at next year? Answer that question and all your fears will subside. Chill out and have a qualude.

Have you guys ever thought, maybe its not the money? What if Cam and Keek truly love playing for this team? Sure there expecting to get paid, however, if another team offers more i dont see them moving, they love it here.

With Cam it's about his Brand, the best thing for his brand is for him to stay where he's built it. But guys like Wilson and Luck are killing his brand. It's not his fault, they're on better teams. That's where my thinking him leaving is possible. Like he said, it's a business.

If I am Cam's agent, I don't mind waiting.  He is guaranteed $14m+, his salary will only improve.  He has yet to have that "breakout season" which could be on the horizon, with the upgrades on the OL.  I also expect this team to make the playoffs again.  Barring injury, there is nothing to be lost by waiting.

And that works for the Panthers too.  Cam has been banged up, he has been erratic at times.  While I think he is the franchise qb, there is a varying degree of $$$ that a team might be willing to pay.  They can keep him (realiistically) for 2 more seasons (the 3rd year would be ridiculous money).

However, I think the Big Ben deal helps clear the waters a bit.  I also think Eli Manning's deal (which will follow) will be in the same ballpark.  While Cam's camp was waiting for the Wilson/Luck contract announcements, they may be out of luck (har) anytime soon.  If we are to sign Cam now, it will be based on the veteran, super-bowl winning contracts.

If I were Gettlemen, I would look at the cap, look at the college crop of QBs coming out next year, and if I am not sold on the cost vs. production, I trade Cam while he has value to move up in the draft.  HOWEVER, if I am sold on Cam, which I assume he is, I work out a 6 year contract for him that averages $20m.  By the end of that deal, I assume he will be a bargain (if the rate continues to rise).  Guarantee a lot of money up front, so if he deteriorates, we have an out.

But for those of you who want to see a $25m contract to validate him in some way, that is how Hurney thought.  In addition, it makes you a Cam fan, not a Panther fan.

I don't think anybody WANTS to see a 25 million dollar contract...but if he has a good year? I think you're looking at 22-23, if/when Luck and Wilson get around that. 23 is the top number I'd feel "comfortable" with I think, and if we could get Cam at 20 a year, through his prime? I'd honestly be kind of ecstatic.

In earlier threads, I have seen people suggest that he needs to be the highest paid qb and that the Panthers should essentially give his agent a blank check (I exaggerate, but not much) --I think you are right (22-23), but the difference between that and whatever he his holding out for (assuming he has been offered and rejected a deal) has to be really small.  I don't get it.  If I were Cam, a $100m contract over 5 seasons sets me up for a life of luxury for the rest of my life.  I then focus on endorsements and rings.

True on all points for me. But, I'm also never going to fault a guy for wanting those extra few million early in his career. Cam knowing he could've died earlier this year in his wreck, while also getting hit on the field/playing injured all year had to also make him aware that he's not a literal Superman and the tolls are being taken on his body. I'd more than likely want as much money as possible too. And hell, maybe it's just a matter of being a competitor. He looks at Matt Ryan making 20.75 a year, and says hey...I deserve more than that guy.

In the end, I'm pretty confident a deal gets done. There will be initial sticker shock for most, but in the end I think it comes off being a fair deal for everyone over the next 5-6 years.
