Compensatory picks and the long game

Saw this on Twitter and thought about how one of the leagues best run organizations, the Ravens, are showing us the results of the seemingly same path we are headed down.

We aren't used to this approach and the angst on the board shows us the growing pains associated with transition and the long game.

Nobody really knows how compensatory picks works but it seems like we are getting in the business and look to improve using all the facets the system allows.

I like Ozzie, but giving Flacco the contract he got was one of the more asinine moves I've seen

I agree that contract was a bit much but the organization is inarguably well run. And we seem to be mirroring them as an organization and Seattle as a roster.

LOL at the bickering.

I keep telling people that team building is not a static proposition. It's fluid.  Much like coaching, you must be able to adapt---especially on the fly---if you want the best odds at winning.  I think that the ability to adapt is so underrated.  I just am waiting to see if G-man realizes this.

Correct me if I'm wrong but if the offseason signing period ended today we would not get any compensatory picks in the 2016 draft. We have signed two UFA's(Ginn and that CB from Jax) and zero of our UFA's have currently signed elsewhere. Deangelo doesn't count since he was cut. The rule states that to get any picks you have to lose more UFAs than you sign. So even if Hardy gets a fat contract out west the numbers don't work out in our favor. Bell, Williams, Docket or some others will have to get a contract elsewhere to guarantee us a comp. pick next year.
