This is relevent for us because Cam was going to wait until Luck and Wilson to get contracts to "let the market reset." So what now?! I still say Cam wont get a contract extension until next year as well, in my opinion I just need to see one more year of Cam without the injuries and see if he has truely taken that next step and deserving of a super mega deal. So in my opinion this could be a good thing and I get a sense Gman is really in no rush in extending Cam to a mega deal either.

What more does Cam have to show you? Do you want to go back to Jimmy Clausen or to the other scrubs the Panthers had at the QB position over the years? LOL.

Lets see.. Better deep ball, CONSISTENCY, better mechanics, more stepping into his throws as opposed to throwing off his back foot. It just comes down to him not being as streaky as he is and without sounding cliche and vague, consistency

Never seen the logic of Cam waiting to see what a QB drafted a year behind him will do contract wise before he signs.

What's Cam's plan, wait for the Franchise Tag to be applied then the next year see what Luck does?

Luck's second contract has nothing to do with Cam, as Cam may influence Luck's second contract, not the other way around.

That pathetic o-line contributes to these issues. Once the o-line is fixed, his mechanics will be better.

He probably wants to wait and see if the Panthers actually surround him with weapons on the offensive side of the ball. It seems like all they care about is the defense.

Honestly, this year is a perfect barometer for the contract we should give Cam.

He is a young, superstar franchise QB in his prime going into a contract year. There is really no excuse for him to not put up career-best numbers as long as our offensive line plays like they did the back half of last year, and the receivers play competently.

If he is going to gamble by waiting on a contract, the gamble sure as hell better be on himself and NOT on what Andrew Luck and Russell Wilson are doing.

Did you see how well he threw the deep ball when he had a reliable target with speed his rookie year and an oc who liked to take shots? Mechanics improve when you aren't afraid of being crushed or playing hurt. Cam doesn't have to show me anything else. Pay the man. That's my quarterback.

You bring to mind one of my biggest pet peeves about the current NFL climate.

Who gets the biggest payday generally has far less to do with who's done the best and much more to do with who gets paid last.

Hypothetical Example: Let's say Newton goes out and quarterbacks the team to a Super Bowl win this season. Then, after the Super Bowl, he and the team strike a deal for 120 million dollars. Cool, right?

But let's say that same season, Luck or Wilson or whomever is due a new contract experiences a losing season.

Chances are that guy will still wind up making more than Newton because their agent will push for better than Newton got, and the team will ultimately probably give it. Thus, even with the disparity in accomplishment, the guy who gets paid last will be the one who makes the most money.

This is how you end up with guys like Matt Stafford and Tony Romo making more money than guys who've actually won something.

(and here I thought the whole reason the league instituted a rookie wage scale was so that teams wouldn't have to kep paying big contracts to guys who hadn't accomplished anything yet)

    • Hello there.  We are rolling out a complete overhaul of the Huddle. Why: Frankly this site is so old the database and antiquated software has gotten unmanageable. There is not much we can do to fix anything anymore. The new site is wired for the future including getting back in the app stores.    When:  Hopefully by early July so that we can test and recover things. After the migrations we will still have access to the old site behind the scenes to bring over anything we missed.    Wait, will I lose anything?  We are only bringing over topics and posts from the past calendar year. The tinderbox is being set on fire and rolled off a cliff. All it ever did was made this place feel horrible all while changing approximately 0 minds in 20 years.  The new site will only have 4 forums to keep this joint Carolina team sports focused. Panthers, Hornets, Charlotte FC, Hurricanes.    Improved Moderation  This is a clean slate for us, as such if you are a problematic member (you know who you are) that enjoys getting banned and coming back, we aim to make it much more difficult for you. However, upon the move your slate is clean. Take advantage of it.  We would love to get this place back to what it used to be. Nice folks with friendly banter centered around Carolina sports. We will be using the BAN HAMMER liberally to rid this place of people who aren't interested in that or try to drag the new site back into the gutter.   New Features With new tech comes new features we will be rolling out over the rest of the year.    What about the damn ads?  Fewer and less problematic ads. Again, new tech allows for this. Without ads this place gets shut down.    What if I can't login?  If you can't login due to not being able to reset your password from the login screen, email [email protected] with your username and we will get you squared away.    Let me know if you have any specific questions.
