Daredevil is extraordinarily good...

 

Daredevil might just be one of the most elegant entry points for a superhero in live-action that I've ever seen (and I've seen 'em all)...

 

The fight scenes are all spectacular, with lots of long shots to make sure you can see every hit. There's one in particular in an early episode that is handily the most spectacular fistfight I've seen in any superhero project, and it should satisfy even the most hardened action movie afficionado. You'll know it when you see it, and I expect it's the one that everyone will be talking about in the first hours after the show hits Netflix... 

 

The violence is considerably more graphic than what we've come to expect from Marvel, so prepare yourself...

 

It's beautifully shot (if a bit dark at times), with a look that is far more True Detective than the perpetually sunny Agents of SHIELD. It even feels more cinematic than several of Marvel's theatrical offerings.

Daredevil's owes a great deal to Asian crime cinema's threaded narratives and violent crescendos, turning the show into more of a comic book version of The Departed than a fight-of-the-week drama like ABC's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

The easiest comparison to make is The Raid: Redemption both in terms of scope and brutality of the fight scenes...

 

Netflix’s Daredevil is nothing like any of the superhero shows before it. It’s more of a crime drama with a vigilante than anything, and for those reasons it’s refreshing. It’s different, and it’s a bold step in the right direction for Marvel. It’s nothing short of a masterpiece meticulously crafted on every level.

The hype was real with Agents of Shield too... until we realized fanboys were behind the reviews. I'll wait to make my judgement when I see it but the show appears very promising.

 

The SHIELD hype was based on the Avengers, NOT SHIELD. No one had seen Agents of SHIELD. It was all "Avengers hangover." 

 

REVIEWERS HAVE SEEN THE FIRST TWO TO FIVE EPISODES OF DAREDEVIL.

 

To even compare that to this is moronic.

We’ve seen the first five episodes of Daredevil, out of 13 total, and I can already tell that there will be a lot of people staying up really really late on Friday night, after it appears on Netflix. The series thus far definitely has the feeling of being a roughly 12-hour movie, with each episode sort of standing on its own but also building up a dark, intense ongoing story.

 

And even though I’ve loved a lot of live-action comics adaptations on television lately — especially Arrow — it’s sort of a jolt to see one that’s stripped of a lot of the sentimentality and narrative coziness that still comes with broadcast TV. Not only is the violence a lot more brutal in Daredevil, but the characters are allowed to be slightly more honest and less melodramatic. There are still likable characters, and strong emotions, but it’s a bit less overplayed than on network TV...

 

...The Daredevil series, at least based on the first five installments, is one of the best encapsulations of a lot of superheroic themes that I’ve seen thus far in live-action. It features a deeply flawed hero, whose mission is painfully open-ended and who’s in danger of losing his soul in the fight against people massively more powerful than himself. It’s a must-watch, not just for fans of the comic or of superhero comics, but for anyone who loves great action movies or great heroic narratives.

No one saw Agents of Shield? Clearly you've never been on Superherohype. There were reviews from "test audiences" a week prior to the pilot's release. So please, I wouldn't try to use the word 'moronic' when it comes to the hype machine. It's just like ANY film with special screenings. Hyperbole... hyperbole everywhere.

I mean, it might still end up being great but when statements like "it's so good that the first two episodes could have been released in theaters as a BLOCKBUSTER" are out and about there's a good chance it was fanboy flattery.

 

Since this thread isn't about TEST AUDIENCES, only a moron would care. WHAT DID THE EARLY WRITTEN REVIEWS OF SHIELD AND CRITICS WHO WERE GIVEN EPISODES EARLY SAY?

      This while he didn't single handily LOSE the game on any one play.....    He was a first overall pick, one we paid a fortune for..... the bar for him is a 10 foot dunk not a 5"8 children's rim.   32 for 49 for 287 with 1 td and 1 int in two games vs the worst team in the conference, two critically important games that we would be 9-5 and competing for the #2 if he had led us to victory....   Ive given him props for the TD to tet.... it was the best pass ive ever seen him make.....   But putting up these kind of numbers isn't up to par. Defenses stack the box and dare him to throw....  and he still puts up medicore at best numbers.    To win with Bryce young the entire rest of the team has to be absolutely perfect to make up for his deficiencies.... so while he didn't "lose" this game for us..... HE DEFFINATLY DIDNT GO WIN IT FOR US. (Which is the REALISTIC EXPECTATION)

      His O is just built on taking repeated shots and that’s not BY’s game.  It was always a round peg and square hole…. But I also agree with your post.  I hate OC HCs.  Especially green ones.   I never liked anything about the setup

      I get that. He's also trying to do HC and OC this year which I think is just too much for him. I think it's hard to call plays from the sidelines. That view from up top helps them see what a defense is doing better. A few HCs can do it because they have the QBs and experience to pull it off. DC has neither. I think DC may have spread himself too thin and Bryce isn't the QB to be able to pull of his end of it either. How much they compliment each other in creating this offensive bleh, yet to be determined. Doesn't really matter because it's still awful.
