The case for La'el Collins

I thought he was ruled not a suspect? Someone will draft him anyways, so i don't get why he wants out.

You have to keep in mind that there are many people with agenda's here. La'ell's agent will be telling anyone with ears his client had no involvement.

But also the police may not want to tip off La'ell if they have information suggesting he is involved. A murder investigation is bigger than a draft pick.

This is a very difficult situation and I ask myself how this didn't come up sooner. Did La'ell conceal information from teams?

I don't know how $$$ goes in supplemental, but I assume if there are a ton of teams taking him off their board or not thinking of drafting him until late, he would probably rather go in the supplemental at a 3rd rounder salary then to be a late round pick or an UDFA.

First of all I would like to apologize to you as a mod, for how I said "I thought he was ruled not a suspect?" Question marks after statements is one of my pet peeves and I can't say I wouldn't have banned me were I in your shoes.

Anyways, I would honestly still take him in the second if he does fall. Some people have him as their top tackle in the whole class (Mayock included) and even with questions, that's a risk worth taking at #57 to me.

Now it's breaking news that:

Ian Rapoport @ RapSheet

2m

What @JayGlazer said is true. Agent for La’El Collins met with

the NFLPA to request he be allowed in Supplemental Draft. We’ll

see.

I think the nfl should allow it, if it turns out he's a suspect the nfl can just pull him from that & let things play out. If it turns out the police are just doing their job & this is a case of fugged timing, it prevents a possible 1st rounder from getting completely screwed.

Wouldn't get be better off being a udfa and then negotiate/choose his team

No going undrafted doesn't work that way. I'm fairly sure there is a wage scale for undrafted guys too and the only negotiating point is guaranteed money. Additionally undrafted guys enter into restricted free agency for the first 4 years of their careers. So not only would he be low balled, he would be forced to sign 1 year tenders until 2020. It's a tough situation for him.

UDFA deals are capped at $435k(league minimum) with a $70k signing bonus. It's better than getting picked in the 6th or 7th, but if he gets in the supplemental draft and is completely cleared then he would probably get at least 2nd round money.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.
    • Start posting in threads in the other forums instead of just creating threads. No one comes over here so you aren't starting conversations.  Get your ass up to 100 posts. It's not that hard. Don't create 100 posts. Contribute to conversations.
    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
