Projected Starters 2015

Weak spots:

Ealy:  He is promising, but unproven.  Alexander et al. behind him, but still, nothing to feel confident about yet.  However, this team did OK without Hardy last year, and they will be better at DE this year with Ealy's development and Alexander's sobriety.

Roman Harper:  Rivera will keep him out there if he gives up 300 yards per game.  Still, I like Coleman.  Harper is probably going to be needed less with Thompson.

Michael Oher, Daryl Williams:  Maybe a weak spot, but they could become a strength just as easily.  Oher has not played well over the last 2 years, but I keep hearing players talk about the family atmosphere-- I think that helps Oher.  Rumor has it that he has been at the stadium working his tail off.  Williams is a stud, but he is still a 4th round rookie playing T.  Still, I see no reason why he can't become a dominant RT soon.  I hope he can pass block as well or better than Remmers, and I know his run blocking is better.  Remmers is solid depth, and frankly, Martin should be as well.

New Strengths

The WR group is solid on paper, especially knowing that a combination from Boykin, Brown, Ginn, Hill, etc. is behind them.

The LB corps could be very special.   Thompson is a very versatile athlete and he will stretch McDermott's imagination.

The Offensive Line will surprise people. Both Tackle spots were upgraded, and expect improvement as the G's transition from rookie to veterans. Kalil is one of the best in the game at reaching the second level.

Last year, on offense we started 3 rookies (Benjamin, Turner, Norwell) down the stretch; this year, we would start the year with 2 (Funchess, Williams).

Last year, on defense we started 3-4 rookies down the stretch (Boston, Benwikere, Glanton, Ealy-rotational) This year, we will start only Thompson on defense, unless maybe Peters can send Benwikere back to nickel.

A couple little differences, as things stand right now with no expectations in preseason, I see 2 things wrong on that depth chart. The most Glaring issue to me is Williams at RT. I think he'll start by the end of the season, but as of right now, this is Remmer's job to lose. The other thing is, Cotch will not be the #3. He might be the third best receiver, but I don't believe that there will ever be a situation in which he is on the field with Funch and KB, that would be the slowest receiving corps in the history of mankind. Ginn/Brown will be our #3, if Cotch makes the team then he will give KB or Funch a breather when they need it. Aside from those 2 things, it seems pretty accurate.
