It's bad out in Redskin territory, hire Taekwondo expert "Master Kim" to train Linemen

Walk along the sidelines of Redskins OTAs, and it's hard to miss a new set of drills that look very different. Giant men, mostly defensive linemen and linebackers, going through a series of very fast and very physical exchanges with a shorter, smaller coach. As the practices ran for the last few weeks, more information has leaked out about the drills, and the role of the mystery man.

"That’s Master Joe Kim," Washington coach Jay Gruden explained. "He’s part of our strength and conditioning program."

Watching the drills can be captivating, as Kim works through a series of hand-fighting techniques with players that look about twice his size. Last season, Kim worked with the Chicago Bears. Stephen Paea, who the Redskins signed away from Chicago this offseason, enthusiastically credits Kim with much of his success.

"I worked it last year, I was with him in Chicago," Paea said after OTAs on Tuesday. "I went from one sack to six sacks in one year."

Not exactly sure why you would say "Bad out in Redskin Territory" based on this.

It is a proven fact that using techniques in yoga, martial arts, etc can significantly improve flexibility, hand eye coordination, strength, mental acuity, etc.....all of which are important as an NFL athlete.

Hiring this guy though?  Seems like they need to concentrate on things like making their QB play better.  Offensive line is fine with Trent Williams and others.  Better than ours at least.

Great idea. They should just ignore improving anything but the QB Position. ...just ignore all of it.

    • I'd hold on to Walker - we have no OT depth at all. Freeling is a block of clay - all the tools are there and he appears to have a great attitude. He needs serious work on his technique to realise his potential though.
    • From my watch last night: They weren't trading out of 19 unless it was a daft offer once Freeling got there. They were clearly antsy to get Hunter - and Minnesota actually called to offer the trade down. They weren't trading out of the third round pick once Brazzell fell to it (and Canales would have been happy with him in the second round). They traded back a lot on Day 3 - even if Morgan 'Babe Ruth'd' it with Lee, Hecht and Wheatley; they clearly weren't the only guys they would have taken at those picks. I'm curious to know which player caused the reaction at the start of day 2 (Dan Morgan): "of course they'd pick him"
    • Watching this confirms that this staff and front office is super high on Monroe Freeling. I wouldn't be surprised if he's gotta a real chance to win the starting LT job in camp. If he does, we can look to flip Rasheed Walker to a contender desperate for tackle help.   As for Ickey I still really like him and wanna extend him but based on how the staff was talking about Freeling it might be time for ickey to start taking some practice sets at guard if he wants to stay here as we are gonna have to have figure out a solution for the contracts of Lewis and Hunt.  My preferred scenario for the Oline in 2027 is Freeling-Ickey-Hech-Lewis-Moton.
