starting a bar

anyone thought about opening a bar before?

i've done assloads of research and i'm seriously considering taking the leap. my current job has soured considerably for a couple of reasons and my income has been cut squarely in half because of it, and i'm looking at alternatives. opening my own place is one of them.

i've debated a couple of options. one is to simply not deal with liquor and just go for broke on craft beers and keep a decent wine selection. another is to move a lot of food but simplify the menu to cut down on supply costs and cater to a specific demographic of bar-goers (a potato skins and chicken fingers bar food crowd rather than a caviar crowd.

greensboro is booming and has a serious lack in good panthers sports bars. i wouldn't make it exclusively a sports bar but i don't think i'd have a problem drawing a crowd on sundays. i've been to countless kickass little bars in other countries that would blow the competition away here that are inspiring me.

rent for a halfway decent spot here is ~15/sqft/year, which is pretty damn decent. startup costs can be minimized if you know what you're doing.

I'd name my bar "straight up 77". It would be right off 77 and only serve straight hard liquor. No mixed drinks. Also, I'd hire hot women to bartend and make sure they are super condescending and insulting to everyone. Let's do this.

dicks last resort already beat you to it

What?!?!

i think it's in boston. bunch of hot-ass bartenders greet you at the door like HEY fugER WHAT THE fug DO YOU WANT and then the staff freaks out and calls you a fuging ***** no matter what you order and insult every time they come to your table. the bartenders make fun of you mercilessly. it's probably the type of place you only go to once just for the novelty value

    • The lack of discipline has seriously been our downfall the last month. Seems like we just went off course this last month and Lee won't address it. You can't just live and die by the 3 when you can attack the paint and at worst draw a foul
    • Great season regardless of what happens. From starting out 4-14 to ending 44-38 is incredible progress and future is bright from here. I do think we can beat the Heat and then win on the road against either Orlando or Philly assuming Embiid doesn’t miraculously return sooner. But if not, a higher draft pick is nice too
    • I know a DT that's asking for a trade: 🤔 maybe a home discount can be worked out. Dan Morgan could create up to $80 million in space through restructures of stars like Derrick Brown, Jaycee Horn, or Taylor Moton. They could also include players like Tershawn Wharton ($18.6M cap hit) in the trade to balance the salaries. Carolina Receives: DT  Dexter Lawrence II New York Receives: 2026 2nd Round Pick (No. 51 Overall): A premium Day 2 selection that fits the for  Lawrence  after his 0.5-sack season in 2025. WR  Xavier Legette : A young, high-upside receiver who provides the playmaking depth HC John Harbaugh needs for his offense. 2026 4th Round Pick: Immediate mid-round value. 2027 4th Round Pick (via MIN): Future capital acquired in the  Adam Thielen  trade.  ----- Stone Forsythe* (another young player as a potential trade option)provides immediate offensive line retooling for HC John Harbaugh.    John Harbaugh's history in Baltimore proves he values draft volume over individual superstars.    Just my 2cents
