after bringing ted ginn back and drafting funchess i actually think i'd rather have bersin on the roster than hill, as long as he never touches another punt again in his life

I think Cam Newton probably agrees with you. Cam likes Bersin (based on reports).

I just came over to make a thread about this if no one else had....  I find myself agreeing with most of Newton's projected roster, but I do have a few quibbles.

Defense:

CB:  Back in May when I did a 53 man roster projection myself, I was thinking Teddy Williams would make the roster.  That was before Houston was signed.   I think there's some chance we could keep 6 CBs this year for special teams, but it's hard to know where the extra roster spot might come from with so much depth at so many positions,..

DE / DT:  Agree with Newton's picks and with keeping 5 DEs and 4 DTs, especially since there's not (yet) a clear replacement for Hardy.

LBs:  I find it hard to believe we'll cut Trusnik who was brought in as a special teams ace.  Perhaps Mayo's draft has made Trusnik obsolete?  Do y'all agree with Newton that Glanton will make the roster?  I'm thinking it might be between Glanton & Trusnik, but I don't know their different skill sets enough to really evaluate and haven't got time to read up on them both right now,  Seems logical we'd keep 9 LBs given our ridiculous depth at this position!

Safeties:  Agree with Newton

Offense:

QBs:  Agree with Newton that Joe Webb, sadly, is history (I predicted that in May...)  Just don't think there's any space for him.

C: I find it hard to believe that Folkerts will be cut.  What other backup is there at Center?  Remmers perhaps?

Guards & OTs: I agree with Newton.

RBs, FBs,  Agree with Newton

TEs:  Not sure I agree 100% that we'll keep Brandon Williams.  Is there a chance we could only keep 3 TEs and that this is perhaps another place a roster space could be freed up for a position where we have just too much depth? (eg. LB, CB)

WR:  I'd be VERY surprised if Hill makes it over Bersin or Boykin.  My bet is now on Bersin (whereas before OTAs I was thinking Boykin).  I see Hill as fallling below both of those.

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
