Thank god D.G picked Star instead of.....

Some on here complained that S.Richardson was and is better then Star. S.L has been an upstanding citizen and has and will be a dominating tackle for years to come. The above mentioned is now suspended four games and has been arrested for driving 143 mpg in his Bently and fleeing from police in July  with a minor in the car ( the news just hitting now).

D.G knew what kind of person and player he was getting in Star. Sure he had a down year last season,  but the guy is a beast and will come back strong. Good choice on our GM's part.

Aside from all this, from a football perspective he didn't really make much sense as a pick for us.  Generally in a 4-3 defense you have 1 space eating DT and 1 DT who is a little lighter and explosive.  We had desperately needed a big time space eating DT whereas we already had Dwan Edwards and were targeting Kawann short, so we already had a plan for the more explosive DT.

Basically what I'm saying is that say Sheldon and Star swapped teams/roles, neither would be playing as good as they are.

That's why the Jets are the Jets...also picked a guy named Hill a few years earlier. I  doubt D.G would have picked S.R if the Jets did pick Star....even if S.R was a top ten talent that was falling also like Star.

I don't think Star had a down year last year. He ended up having a +6.9 PFF grade. He also dealt with an ankle injury mid-season from the Eagles game. And you can't understate the absence of Greg Hardy. It took a while for our defense to adjust to that. Also, he started heating up towards the end of the season. He dominated vs the Falcons with 2 sacks and 7 tackles.

We learned our lesson with low-character first round picks in the 90s. I think our nearly spotless track record of first-round picks (both on and off the field) since then has proven us right in avoiding them.

    • Through 2 games cltfc has 12 shot attempts. Opponents 23 shots on target. Attack sucks, Defense definitely sucks. Kahlina is the only reason they haven't given up 14 goals in two games.
    • I met a few times--never liked him. I figured he might have had a bad day--but then realized that he must have a lot of bad days. Once he raised his voice at my son because my son did not understand a question when SS was signing his jersey.  I wanted the jersey to represent his encounter with a Panther great, not some small man with a bad attitude.  I told me son, "Forget it.  He was asking you what your name is (My son was about 7 and told me that he thought Smitty was going to write (my son's) name on the jersey.  He said "Dad, I thought he was supposed to write HIS name on the jersey, not mine."  I said, "He was personalizing it, writing it to you--like a birthday card."  He is now grown, and he has a steve smith Jersey that is framed and matted.  He keeps it is his closet.  I asked him, "Why not have that out on your wall?"  He said, "All I remember is an A-hole scribbled on my shirt.  I don't remember a legend or hero.  But he had a Jake Delhomme Jersey on his wall.  "Jake was great.  I will always remember that."  (Jake stayed and talked to us for about 5 minutes or more--GREAT guy.)
    • Is it possible for someone to regress in maturity as they age or has Steve really just been a jerk his entire life?
