Some realistic WR options

So, with the news that Reggie Wayne is getting ready to take his physical in New England, Panthers' fans are again getting ready to off themselves. Realistically, though, Reggie Wayne was probably never an option for us. He's a) old and b) going to pretty expensive given what you're paying for. With that being said, who are some realistic options out there that the Panthers might kick the tires on?

Vincent Brown
Current Team: Colts
With the Colts have Andre Johnson, TY Hilton, Donte Moncrief, and Griff Whalen (along with a poo ton of TEs), Vincent Brown might be the odd man out. He's been oft-injured, but, he's played decently when he has had a chance to play. He's also played in San Diego (though, admittedly not while Ron Rivera was there), so he is familiar with a similar system to what Rivera wants to run offensively. On top of that, he's only 26 years old, giving us another option to have a youthful receiver on our team.

Jeff Janis
Current Team: Packers
This is my most hopeful option, honestly. Jeff Janis is in the same situation as Vincent Brown, he's basically the victim of a numbers game. Right now, the Packers have Cobb, Nelson, Adams, Abbrederis, and two rookies they just drafted in Ty Montgomery and Javess Blue. Janis could be a legitimate option in our offense, again, coming from a place that they like to run a fairly vertical/Coryell style system. He's young, and could be a viable option for the foreseeable future.

Santana Moss
Current Team: Free Agent
We all know who Santana Moss is at this point: a poor man's Steve Smith. The two have similar size, similar guts, and early on, had similar career paths. Both have been plagued by horrible QBs, terrible offensive schemes, and injuries. But, Santana Moss is biding his time as an UFA right now, waiting on a team to call. Sure, he's 36 years old, but he could immediately come in and contribute to the team, along with helping the younger receivers (primarily Funchess) develop the right working attitude. Sign him after Week 1 and his contract becomes non-guaranteed.

A guy like Brown from a WR heavy team is intriguing, but I fully expect Gettleman to roll with what we have, at least until cuts.

That's what I meant for this thread to be: names that you could see after the final cuts and up until Week 2 of the regular season.

    • And, honestly, there's only so much you can attempt to do in the draft. And every draft pick is a roll of the dice. But that's where grabbing a ton of UDFAs, and targeting the best, makes a big difference. Sure, their individual chances of getting a hit here is less, but that shotgun pattern might just hit something.  Right now, we need bulk, partly to rebuild and partly to dilute the deep level of stank that has developed on this team in the last six years. If we're going to rebuild a culture built around culture, accountability and winning, then these UDFAs we bring in each season have to be the wash water that gets out that leftover dirt.  Canales seems to be a smart, culture-first, build up the good ones kind of guy. I like that and I hope he can keep it going here. But he was working against a locker room that had been taught to lose and taught to distrust or ignore coaches. He's got his work cut out for him, still. He does seem to have it moving in the right direction and that's something I was pretty amazed with by the end of last season.
    • The most telling sign, IMO, of a team on the upward swing is who we lost in the off-season. Who left that even saw the field? Woods, Clowney, Sanders, & Hekker. OK...no big deal. Clowney is the only 1 that I raised an eyebrow over and I get that it was a money decision. No need to pay him over $7M to take snaps from our draft picks when he was just OK last year.
