Peppers 1 year deal going to be blessing in disguise

The more i think about it the more i realize that Peppers not signing a big fat long term deal is going to be better for us in the long run and to a certain extenet this year.

The only major con is the fact that he crippled us for this season but in all reality the panthers arent really known for making big offseason splashes anyway. Sure we may have been able to go out and get a mike whale or a landon johnson or a ken lucas (see where im going with this)..otherwise we could have signed him to a long term deal and if he didnt live up to it, we'd be stuck with him.

On the flipside he's got all the potential in the world, plus he's got all the fuel for his fire that he can possibly need right now.We have Everette Brown and Charles Johnson(whos still very young) waiting in the wings and we are now able to continue gaining experience for both of these guys instead of throwing them into the fire before being ready.

The other argument that could be brought up is we lost key depth in hangartner and Omilaye..but were not even guranteed they would have stayed just for money..as they are both going to have a shot at starting elsewhere..besides do we really wanna spend that much on just backups?

so in conclusion we had a bad pre-season partly cuz we no longer have the depth we once had but the time that really counts is around the corner and the wishy washy fans will be back on the bandwagon of the Panthers in less than a week

I agree that not signing Pep to a long term deal before training camp was the best decision for the Panthers. There was no way the team gets a better Pep with a long term deal vs the 1yr. My big question is will we see the Pep we saw last year, which in my opinion, was a guy that looked great in spurts and piled up some sacks to just help himself in the offseason or will he play more consistently like the dominant DE was saw earlier in his career here.

Time will tell - but either way - I think the Panthers should do what they can the next offseason to move on without him.

but, Pep ALWAYS has piled up sacks in bunches, and then gets nothing for long stretches. I dont see why that would change this year.....although I will take 15 sacks every year and be happy.:D:D

There are no easy teams this year like last. Peppers will have to work every game to earn his sacks.

    • I have been looking for a dropped pass list and all that comes up is QBs. And team stats. When I do receivers I get the passing stats for a handful that threw passes this year.    I wanted to be accurate but anyhow I was looking because thought I remembered reading where T Mac had more drops than XL this year.  One of you many smarter than me people here,I would appreciate it if you know how to pull that up, please do. Thank you.    And yeah I know that isn’t all there is to it I just thought it was interesting.  Of course what the hell is a drop lol.
    • I agree with this and I think it's worth mentioning too that Bryce is not consistent on his placement and especially velocity and that in large part is driven by his footwork. We all know XL doesn't have the best hands and I don't know that he can overcome that. Cam always had the heater that just hit your hands and sank into your grip, where Bryce has some that are harder thrown, some soft. Bryce stepping into a pass looks so much different than that hop throw thing he does. I think XL really needs to hit the jugs machine and start learning how to catch all these different touch passes. TMac and Coker don't have these issues. If XL doesn't get some work in he's going to be out of the league in the next couple of years.
    • I think most people like XL from a personal standpoint. I don't think he's stupid either. Although if we are being realistic he is lacking in football IQ at this point in time and it cannot be disputed that he has not taken working on his craft seriously at all times given the body of work on the field. It speaks for itself. I myself have defended him at times given the circumstances of our QB room. But he is now in his third year and 25 years old. We are not in a position as a franchise to go around babying anyone especially first round draft picks. He needs to take his position and his football career seriously or he is going to end up selling used cars somewhere. I hope he realizes this and takes an extended break from social media because that mess certainly isn't going to increase his net worth if he ends up out of the league. And these hanger on types will disappear quick too once that money dries up and it surely will eventually. We'll see how he responds.
