CAP may get significant playing time right from the start

just give the rock to the hottest hand, that's all I care about.

If Stew is averaging 2-3 yards per carry after 15 carries, then definitely see what CAP and Wegher can do.

that is what 28 does.  Breaks tackles and drags guys turning a 0 yard run to 2-3.  Then late he turns the 2-3 ones into plays that gash a D.

Musical RBs has gotten so old.  We need to use 28.  You can't predict injuries.

The article has this lede:

Artis-Payne wears DeAngelo Williams’ old number 34, and runs a bit like him too

Wow, what an ignorant statement.

CAP may be built a bit like old Deangelo and he may be wearing his old number, but Deangelo's running style and CAP's running style couldn't be more different IMO.  I've watched them both every down they've played over the last two years (having watched D-Lo even longer) and I can say this with confidence.

Maybe the quote is out of context. Or, said wrong. The idea behind it, I imagine, is that we have such a loaded backfield, we can easily distribute the runs. 15 to Stewart, 15 to CAP, 10 to Wegher, 5 to Tolbert. That's 45 offensive plays. Ron may understand that now, we're in a situation where we don't have to slam Stewart with run after run just to make sure that we don't have to put DWill on the field and watch him play like he did here the last two years.

Last year we only had 67 plays per game.  The year before it was 62.  If we run it 45 times per game, we are only going to be passing it 17-22 times per game, which would mean close to a 2-to-1 run-to-pass ration.

This is a passing league and we just signed a franchise QB to a deal well north of the $100 million mark.  The rules of this league are set up to favor and encourage THROWING the ball and SCORING.  It would be ridiculous in this day and age to run an offense with a 2-to-1 run-to-pass ratio and even more ridiculous to pay a QB way over $100 million to hand it off for most of the game.

ps.....Panthers were top 5 last year in number of plays run on offense.

expect more of the same.

Panthers were Top 5 in plays last year because they got behind in the score on a regular basis and were playing catch-up a lot.

Ideally, the success of a "ground-and-pound" (as we keep getting told we want to do) is to have FEWER plays but LONGER (running plays where the clock continues running) ones.  Not that I agree with this philosophy, but that's the way it *should* be if Rivera/Shula get what they want.  In our 12-4 season, we were 26th in the league in plays per game.
