DeAndre Hopkins

Lol ok

Yeah, I know, right?  To this point. You can easily make the case that Hopkins has had the better career, and anyone that doesn't have homer glasses on can see there is a good possibility that he will have the better career.

Star, for the solid player that he is,  has been on ice for a notable amount of his career.

Could have happened, we chose Star. Then drafted a guy better than him with our second pick.

Meh.  Star was the right pick, though.  Falling Top 5-10 guy, and our run defense then was on par with our WR's now. And Star is still a damn good player, who can be dominant (ATL game last year) who is obviously only going into year 3 as well.

A revisionist draft where we're guaranteed KK in the 2nd, and know what he was to be though?  Yeah, maybe taking DeAndre.

We were a couple drops from putting 30 up yesterday but ok we can blame Shula

Unless Shula gets credit for Norman's TD, we were a couple of missed TDs away from scoring 24, not 30.

Some OC's actually have the ability to recover from mistakes.  Shula has to have everyone play *PERFECT* in order for his offense to score even close to 20.

I'm in no way defending Shula but 24 points with this receiving group would be pretty good...

True.

But, as I pointed out, everything would have had to go PERFECTLY for Shula for that to happen.

If one thing goes wrong?  Or (god forbid) two?  Then we're lucky to score 14.

Shula's offense provides ZERO margin for error.  You threw an interception, Cam?  You just made an irrecoverable error in Shula's gameplan.  You dropped a TD pass, Ted?  You just made an irrecoverable error in Shula's game plan.

yea that's another common misconception around here that isn't all that accurate. We were ranked 16th in run defense before double dipping on Dts. The Ravens, who won the super bowl that year was ranked 17th just for comparison. Meanwhile our passing offense continues to be bottom 5. We've passed on guys like Keenan Allen, Deandre Hopkins, and Jordan Matthews and instead selected defensive players. Imagine our offense with two of those guys or just one and a healthy KB.

Well, our passing offense was ranked 19th last year at 219.4 YPG.  Not bottom 5.  2013, we were bottom 5.  But also 12-4.

Run defense...25th in 2011. 14th in 2012. 2nd in 2013. 16th in 2014. (By ESPN's run defense stats at least).  If anything, I'd say Hardy is apparent there...he becomes a legit two-way DE in 2012...add Star and KK and we become dominant in 2013. And the drop last year because Hardy's absence perhaps.

As for the WRs...

Allen was the 8th WR taken in his draft at 76. Though I remember wanting him...not really going to fault us passing on him when he's a drafted mid rounds and we didn't have our 3rd.

Hopkins, taken late 1st.  Couldn't have justified him at the time at Star's pick...didn't last to our 2nd.

And Jordan Matthews? Went before our 2nd round pick...we took KB in the 1st.  We didn't pass on him to take a defensive player.

You do know that you aren't locked into one particular pick right? You can move those things around. Both Hopkins and Allen were there when we picked in the first and second round and we went defense. Players aren't assigned to only be drafted in certain rounds, given that his pro day was at Ricky's facility and he threw to him and Ron was the only head coach in attendance, we should have been smart enough to either take him in the second or trade up for him. If I recall correctly they went home knowing they didn't have a 3rd round pick. I do agree with you on Hardy.

In Rivera's defense and most others, the players are paid to catch the ball actually. A good defense is paid to get the ball back in the hands of their offense with good field position.

CBs are there to defend the pass not catch it no matter what defense they are on. A great CB may not even get one pick a year. Why do you say? Because no one is dumb enough to throw his way.  What your saying is like says MLBs are paid to catch the ball not tackle. Sounds stupid now dont you think. If Norman does what he did to Jax to any other team not named the Browns or Jax its a long day. Norman got beat more than once and allowed a TD and almost allowed another.  When a 2nd year QB is picking on you its never a good thing as a CB.

    • Lol, good one. Rod will never let Necas Play center
    • All I can say is... I have some happiness off the rags choking and losing to the Panthers. Hopefully the Western conference team wins the Stanley cup, but now I can be 100% uninvested in the playoffs
