Should the Panthers make any moves over the bye week?

I'm just wondering how the people asking for trades would react if we can't sign KK, Star or Norman next year because we got Anquan fugging Boldin to turn us into immediate Superbowl contenders. Really, how far removed from current NFL can you be and still call yourself a fan?

Boldin would cost next to nothing an is a FA after this season...

They must've had you on suicide watch after we traded for Jared Allen

yeah no shtt, that's why your whole "never trade for a guy that's a free agent next year" statement is completely wrong. you just workout an extension during the trade negotiations, not complicated here

It's actually not that simple. You still have to meet their contract demands while managing cap impact and everything else that's involved in a contract negotiation. Something which, as you may recall, our GM has stated he won't do during the season.

But more to the point, people are wanting us to trade picks for guys who will only help us for a single season, and that's just plain poor team management.

wait a second, you have to consider cap implications when giving a player a contract extension? well i'm glad you're here to tell me these things

and feel free to email Gettleman telling him about his "poor team management" trading a 6th for Allen, seeing as how his base salary jumps 1000% next year and we're most likely only keeping him for one season

Allen isn't a free agent next season. And his cap hit this year is minimal.

Also, no one should be surprised if they do a little restructuring of his deal in the offseason.

so somehow it's totally different if the guy is technically under contract (even though his salary jumps 1000%) and the team ends up cutting him after one year. but hey if he's a free agent to begin with well that's just terrible team management huh

lol ok

Yes, a guy who's a free agent after this season is different from a guy who's under contract.

In this case, it is that simple.

so trading for a guy then cutting him the following year (thus making him a free agent)

vs

trading for a guy that's a free agent the following year automatically

= TOTALLY DIFFERENT GUYS

You know for certain we're cutting him next year rather than restructuring?

Okay.

Acquiring a player on a one year deal is the exact same as acquiring a player you will onky keep for one year, especially in this comtext.

to argue otherwise is hysterical.

What draft pick do you give up when you sign a free agent to a one year contract?

Okay.

First you should probably learn what restructuring actually means. Also, LOL @ penny pinching Gettleman paying a 34 yo rotational player $8.5 million when he can cut him with zero dead money.

Apparently at least a 6th,  because afterall, he's essentially playing on a one year contract, which you criticized gettleman for and stated that he's running the team poorly.

in the case of a player who has one year on his deal, you work out a sign and trade, as is commonplace in trades that happen under those circumstances around the league.
