Okay, I like Bill Simmons, but damn

I know I am a little on the homer side, but holy mother of damn, I think he is a secret poster on the huddle cause his Jake Delhomme hated is palpable.

Jakes not the best, but he sure as hell isnt the worst.

Jake Hater's, here is some more ammo.

Eagles (-2) over PANTHERS

Early Wednesday afternoon, I was working when my cell phone rang. It was my daughter's preschool. They never call me unless something bad happened. Forty-five horrible things raced through my mind in 1.7 seconds. She was kidnapped. She fell off the monkey bars. Another kid blinded her with a Lego. I answered the phone with a giant pit in my stomach. Turned out she was just sick and threw up in class. Phew.

What does that have to do with the Panthers? Every big moment with Jake Delhomme is like that random preschool phone call for Panthers fans. They see him in the caller ID and think, "Uh-oh ... ." If they get out of it with a simple puking in class, they will take it. Anything better is a bonus. I would not have brought him back

New Orleans, 11-5

Atlanta, 8-8

Carolina, 6-10

I will give credit where credit is due, his line about Cutler was funny.

PACKERS (-3.5) over Bears

Chicago fans have been wondering why I dumped them and adopted the Packers as my NFC North team and Super Bowl pick du jour. It came down to one thing: I didn't want to root for Jay Cutler. Has he had a likable moment yet? This year will be his coming-out party as the most despised player in football. Every time they show him on the sidelines, he looks like a pissed-off trust-fund kid who can't believe the valet scratched his Escalade hybrid. And you know what? He makes the league more fun. I like rooting against him the same way I liked rooting against Rick Barry, Bill Laimbeer and the Iron Sheik. We need more Jay Cutlers in sports. Not everyone was meant to be liked.

Dude..

It's espn..

you know as well as I do they don't actually know anything about any team that doesn't tickle their titties with " teh SuPaStaHZZZ"

notice the Falcons at the top of the list?

my point proven.

Team continuity, strategy, depth, grind and passion , none of that stuff matters to espn.

it's all about "teh SuPaStaHZZ" to them.

We'll bulldoze our way thru this season again, and Bill Simmons will go back to crying how were overrated like he did the year we went to the Super Bowl

    • Yep. I was hoping for and calling for a day three guy. But I didn’t research the position to say if we should or should‘t have jumped at a particular guy at a particular spot.    And everything I read said it was a poor draft for RBs depth wise. I guess when Seattle takes a backup RB in the 1st, that kind of backs that up.    I definitely think we should keep 4 running backs and if King can play well enough then keep him too.    I believe I heard Canales say we are a running team (talking about drafting a WR he will be needing to block as well as catch). Well if we are gonna be a running team by identity we don’t need to stock the WR room to overflowing. If one room has to sacrifice, it should not be the RB room given our circumstances.
    • If there's a pattern I'm definitely picking up from Dan and company is a philosophy of making trades where we try not to sacrifice the number of draft picks we have by day's end. In other words, we're not giving up three picks for one, or giving up a future pick to make a pick today. And even if we give up something at the start, we make trades later to make up for that initial loss. Here's how it stacked up for 2026: How we started: 19, 51, 83, 119, 158, 159, 200 How we ended: 19, 49, 83, 129, 144, 151, 227 (no future picks sacrificed) Ultimately, we moved up two spots in the second to ensure we got someone we coveted, gave up a few spots for our fourth round pick, but then had better picks in the 5th (and got really good value out of them), and had a worse 7th rounder which isn't that big of a loss anyways.  At this point, we can question who they draft, but they're pretty good maneuvering across the draft board.
    • I just saw the funniest thing...or very disappointing, depending how you handle misery. A guy on YouTube did a 2027 'way too early' mock draft.  If I told you the simulator has the Panthers selecting in the top 10 , what would you say?  If I told you it was pick #8 and only two QBs were taken in the top 7, what would you say?  If I told you this dude had us taking a defensive player, what would you say?
