Luke Cleared to Play

Not sure why I'm feeding the troll..., but here goes.

He's played all of 32 snaps.  Not even a full 2 quarters. 

Here's what an NFL.com analyst wrote in an article today.  The exclamation point is his.

7 tackles and a sack in 32 snaps.  You add on a few more tackles if he'd played the 2nd half and that would have him near the top in the sacks/game stats.

But of course, that's a bit meaningless to speculate.  But if Luke's JAX stats = poor play, I'll take plenty more like it.

Following up on what I posted earlier... using data from Sporting Charts, I was able to calculate a tackle / snap ratio and a sack / snap ratio.

Among all linebackers, Luke ranks 8th in terms of tackles per # snaps played (.22 tackles/snap), and 3rd in terms of sacks (.03 sacks/snap) per snaps played.   

At those rates, if he'd played the same # of snaps as say, Thomas Davis (264 snaps), he'd have 58 tackles and 8 sacks.  Tied for first in tackles, and 1st in sacks.

May I please have some more, sir?

Maybe I should've looked at stats before I complained about Luke's start. I just seem to remember a low PFF grade.

Actually, I shouldn't have bashed you.  You're right about the pretty low PFF grade.  

Part of why I pulled up the stats I did was to show how silly PFF ratings can be sometimes.

 

Ranked 20th among LBs, at 73 overall.  But 7th best in coverage.
