"We aren't built to come back in games"

This is a statement I saw quite a few times in the game day thread and has been trotted out a lot in the past.

Fact of the matter is, When you have a defense that can stuff the run and force three and outs late in games you always have a chance. Cam showed that 5th year poise late. This team is forreal. Shame on all who turned off the Cardiac Cats.

This team is breaking the mold when it comes to what the Panthers can and cannot do:

Can't win after a week off. False

Can't win in Seattle.  False

Can't come from behind.  False

Can't win when key players are out with injuries.  False

This team is more stout and deep than any other Panthers team I can recall since their inception.

They are proving themselves to be among the best in the NFL.

This team does honestly lack the explosive players like Smitty who can score on any play from anywhere...but we do have good ball control and mid-range game so to speak....Lots of players who can catch the possession type 10-15 yard plays.

very good post. I agree.

I think it comes down to two key factors.

Cam in his 5th Year. Has full control of the offense. Has poise in the pocket. Can make plays with his legs.

AND

Ron in his 5th year as a head coach. Old ron would have ran it and kicked the field goal to take it to OT. 5th year ron went for the win and it paid off. Really had this team playing at a high level. Deserves a lot of credit.

Oh come on... we won today but we are NOT a team that can win shootouts. We aren't.

We beat a very flawed, screwed up Seattle team which was awesome. Don't fool yourself into thinking we are the type of team that can do this regularly. We aren't Green Bay or Atlanta even in this regard.

Seattle had a mix of athletes that matched up well vs. our offense. Those speed rushers from all angles really disrupted things for Cam . Not many teams can present that challenge to our offense.

no one said anything about winning shootouts. The argument was we can't comeback in games. When you are down by 2 possessions in Seattle then come back and win you completely shut that talk up. We've proved an awful lot today

Exactly, glad to see some killer instinct after all those years of playing it safe.

    • No, you're right. It doesn't mean you can't call out his flaws and poor play. But it also doesn't mean you can't admit when he plays well and shows improvement. Not you personally, just in general I mean.
    • I will say, I do think there's a version of Bryce that could be really successful as a high-volume passer in a spread-based offense built around quick throws and timing-based intermediate throws with deeper throws schemed up around them. I actually think the power run based offense we're running is a poor fit for Bryce as it requires him to play under center far more often. It's a very traditional offensive approach whereas I think a scheme that spreads defenses out and lets Bryce distribute the ball quickly with anticipation and accuracy is the sweet spot for him. The key, of course, is to find a way to run the ball efficiently out of those formations. Our personnel right now (backs and OL) aren't good fits for that style of offense and I'm not sure it's a scheme Dave Canales favors very much either.
    • I root for him, and I hope for the best, as does essentially everyone. But that doesn’t mean you can’t call out flaws and bad plays. And that’s what a lot of people get wrong.  I hope I’m wrong and that he continues to improve a lot, I just doubt it. But I’ve been wrong before
