How much better is Polamalu?

He is one of (only compared to Ed Reed) the best safetey's to play the game in quite a while...

Dude makes plays and almost singlehandely killed the Titans when their Offense was on the field is a pretty good sign that he's easily the top 5 while our saftey's are nothing to compare to this guy.

Our high hopes were that Godfrey's speed matched with a hopeful chance he has/had the smarts to play the field in a similar way, but I cannot say either are anywhere, at all, near his level of game play...

I feel very secure in saying we are no where near this kind of caliber player....

When I was watching the game last night with my SO, I commented that Hair was reckless with his body. I thought too reckless and only time before he was injured. It goes to that blog by Beason--it doesn't matter how good you are if you are not durable and not on the field. I'm guessing Hair will be out several weeks with a knee injury based upon the replays, at least.

I definitely think Troy is a much better safety, but he definitely has his own problems. I used to think he was very overrated so I watched him play as much as possible last year and he changed my mind. He does take a lot of penalties, and he probably over-pursues more than anyone in the league, but he makes up for it by never giving up on a play.

Neither Reed or Polamalu would be as great as they are without the defensive system they play in. They make plays for the most part because of the fronts creating pressure and forcing mistakes. They are the best in the game at capitalizing on those though.

They would still be the best, but they wouldn't get the highlights as often.

Putting Troy on our defense wouldn't make us that much better. As a single player he is very important, but they would still be fantastic without him.

If I had to pick one player in the entire league that I wish was a Panther above all others, it's Troy Polamalu. Make your case for Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, etc. You won't convince me. Having Polamalu on defense is like having 12 men on the field. He completely reshapes a defense. If he was here, it wouldn't even matter if our D-line was having trouble stopping the run. Did you see Polamalu blow up that running play in the backfield when he started 14 yards off the line?

Polamalu = Future HOF

    • Option 1 is most likely. Even if he kills it this year, it wouldn't be prudent to rush an extension for one good season. If you have to pay him more because you waited another year, then he earned it. And that's OK. Adjust accordingly.
    • Cam had the advantage of having a very strong supporting cast his first 2 seasons. Things definitely worsened later on. But those first couple of years can kill a QB. Some never truly recover. If they do recover it takes years, and usually with another team. Trying to learn to be an NFL QB with TEs and WRs that are trying to learn too is a recipe for disaster. Imagine if Cam's rookie season was that 2014 offensive squad. Changes everything! I said it when they moved up in 2023. This team wasn't ready for a rookie QB yet. Anyone that thinks Stroud would have been a lot better is delusional. The correct formula is to build a strong team and then you go get your rookie QB. Not the other way around. BY is going into his third season and we're still trying to put a respectable group of WRs and TEs around him. I think they have the right personnel now. Unfortunately they haven't developed into actual NFL players yet.  This season we should expect consistency and aggressiveness from BY. Mostly for his development but also to DEVELOP his young cast.
    • It is goofy how some people hate Bryce so much that they're flat out lying to try and remain entitled to their pessimism. It's insanity. Most fans are realists and eagerly awaiting the season to see if we get pre- or post-benching Bryce to start the season and how much he is able to do with some young and developing weapons. Many of us understand that these young guys are going to have growing pains on the job as well as the new defense, but the fans with all of the excuses for why Bryce can't be successful are pounding the no excuses drum. Personally, I'd prefer the Keep Pounding drum.
