Official Hornets at Heat Thread

Ready to roll.  Panthers have me distracted, but I have been keeping up with the preseason, and Batum is hopefully what I mistakenly thought Stephenson would be for us.  Defender, shooter, and facilitator.  He seemed the part in preseason

We will miss MKG for sure, but I think are better equipped this year than years past to deal with his loss.

I think if we stay healthy we can make the playoffs this year.

Pretty stoked!!! Lets do this!

I am pumped for the season to finally tip off!

I am looking for an offense that passes the ball, uses the dribble and the pass to create, and doesn't shoot a lot of midrange jumpers.

I think Frank gets less than 10 minutes of burn. Cliff likes guys that are strong defensively, and that hurts Frank a little. At the same time, Jordan wants Frank to be a contributor, so I do think he sees the court regularly even early in the season.

Whiteside has been a straight up beast, Bosh and McRoberts are back, Wade is healthy, Dragic is locked down, and Deng is motivated.

I can't wait!

yeah, the Heat's roster might be the most complete.. we can have a good season if things fall the right way, but tonight against the Heat- i am not expecting much more than the team to compete and be in it down the stretch..

Came here to make this gameday thread if it hadn't been made already lol...

Needless to say, I AM PSYCHED!!!

I do expect frank to contribute right away, and I'm excited to see Cliff giving a young guy like PJ the start now that his old vet staples are gone.   Love the balance and flow of the offense from what I've seen so far in their limited minutes in the preseason, and I can't wait to see it in action now on a full-time basis.  I'm just excited overall.  And I stand by my previous predictions that we will be a top 5 seed in the east.  This is the best team we' very had offensively and the deepest from top to bottom that we've ever had in the second incarnation of Charlotte basketball, and I expect us to shock the "experts" out there...   Tonight will be a great night to get that started with too because yesterday I was listening to Ryan Rusillo, whom I greatly respect, who was predicting the Heat may be the second best team in the east, which I think is a joke...   So let's show them tonight!

Let's see what these boys can do.  I always rooted for Lin to become a star in this league, here he has the chance to start and perhaps be a key guy in our offense.  I know if he feels like he is open, he's not afraid to pull the trigger.  Kemba is another guy who will take his shots.

The preseason got me thinking this could possibly be a good team, while the players may not be all-world.

    • A rookie that has never played a snap and a proven 1000K NFL WR are not going to be viewed the same in these type rankings.  And calling draft picks, lotto picks, isn't some new quip I just invented.  take the big 3 Hubbard, AT, insert whatever 3rd Panther you want vs Kamara, Hill, Olave.  Most football folks outside of Carolina are picking the Saints there IMO.
    • You didn’t really address the point, just like you ignored the point about the RBs initially, and saying “they are all lotto picks” is just a really silly reduction because you could say that about literally any player rookie or vet every snap, every game, every year. It is well known that different positions have different hit rates, and I would argue different types of prospects within position groups as well, and that hit rates change the further down in the draft you go. Everybody knows QB is different and that, for example, first round OL have a really high success rate. Using your lotto ticket analogy…again…you are saying a lotto ticket with a 1 in 100 chance of hitting is the exact same thing as a lotto ticket with a 1 in 2 chance of hitting (this is an example, don’t take these odds literally). The point was he is no more of a lotto ticket than the 31yr old receiver coming off a major knee injury, and in my opinion he is better odds with a higher potential “jackpot”. Saying one player is an “lotto ticket” while another isn’t is just not sound logic. You have no idea who will break out, regress, get injured, etc. There are safer bets than others, that’s all. I don’t think Diggs is a safe bet and even if he was, weighing him over all of the Panthers WRs plus 2 1k rushers is just dumb. You can disagree if you want. The list is stupid.
    • Yeah, this is all projections of how it will turn out. Inevitability this list will look ridiculous in a full 2025 sesson hindsight, most likely. Still, I am pretty surprised that so many bristled at being thought of as having very, very lowly ranked WR and TE units. We literally have been for years. All you have to do is just have things stay the same and those are immediately bottom 5 units. It is easy to see why one would be reticent to have lofty expectations in the preseason. Gotta show it first when you are a perennial cellar dweller. That's just life at the bottom.
