One Panther makes pffs all worst team

Recommended Posts

It's Ed Dickson

"

Dickson has been below average at just about everything for the Panthers so far this season. He’s rarely looked at in the passing game, with just 13 targets on 103 routes run. He’s caught eight of them, and dropped two. When asked to pass block, he’s not much better, having allowed a QB hit and five hurries in limited snaps. But it’s his run blocking that really earned him a spot on this team. Currently, he has a 30.0 grade when run blocking, which is the worst amongst all tight ends in the NFL."

I have been thinking for a while that we could look at a mid-round Tight End in the next draft, to learn under Olsen and replace the failed SwollBones experiment, perhaps Dicksons play would add to that. Look for ECUs Bryce Williams, he fits the bill of a Panthers Tight End - Good pass catcher, tough and scrappy blocker, but needs some weight re-distribution in the training room

You better believe the coaches will go into the off season looking for a fix. It's just not a priority right now.

Yeah, I think we need to try and find another Ben Hartsock type in either free agency or late in the draft.TE's who are almost pure blockers aren't high in demand so they are cheap or can be found in the late rounds of the draft and that's really all we need as a 2nd string TE. Dickson can be Olsen's direct backup for use as a receiver but our 2 TE sets need a bruiser.

I definitely would like to upgrade Dicksons role. I thought Simonson looked lightyears ahead of Dickson during preseason.

I thought he was a good receiving threat in the pre season, but as bad as Dickson is in the run game, Simonson is even worse.

I would be interested to know if the improvement in the offensive line is significant enough to Gettleman, Rivera, and Shula, that they'd be willing to get another pass catching TE.  One day having an offense of Benjamin, Funchess, Olsen, New TE, a speedster in either Ginn Jr. or Brown, and CAP out of the backfield, would be fun to watch.
