week 1 - week 10: All Panthers Drives at a Glance

A couple of notes about streaks that can be seen in the table above:

1) Most consecutive scoring drives so far this season:  3  (achieved in 4 different games:  New Orleans, Tampa, GB, Tenn)

2) Most drives without a score:  7 drives (Indianapolis) [corrected. I'd originally typed 6.]

3) Games with consecutive touchdowns:  4 (Tampa, Seattle, GB, Tenn)

4) We've scored offensive TDs in 17 of the 18 halves we've played so far (all but the 2nd half of the JAX game)

5) 1st drive of the game:  We've scored on our opening drive in 6 of 9 games this year.  4 field goals, 2 TDs.  In our other 3 opening drives, we've had  2 Three & Outs, and 1 punt after a 7 play 43 yard drive stalled.

6) Games without a turnover:  2 (New Orleans & Tenn)

7) Most turnovers:  3 (Philly & Ind)

8) Only game without a FG:  Seattle

Here's something much more important to know. Coryell offenses are made to stretch defenses vertically instead of horizontally like West Coast offenses. Rivera by way of ol Norv is a Coryell guy.

Sure, I'm glad to learn more about different offense styles & schemes.  I actually did some reading on Air Coryell earlier in the year.  But perhaps you can post that in another thread?  It's kind of off topic here....

Time for me to sign off for the night, so please don't get offended if I don't reply further to any comments until tomorrow.

Really goes to show how big our defense was for us against Indy. People were giving them trash for letting them come back, but EVERY SINGLE one of our touchdowns came from short fields that game.

INDEED!

Not to mention the fact that we turned the ball over three times, and yet our defense limited the colts to just 3 points total off of those 3 turnovers.  In a monsoon....

Yes, give our defense LOTS of props for the Indy win!

Exactly. And our defense was exhausted from the lack of production from our offense. We only had 2 drives over fifty and the last four drives of the game (not including overtime) were all 2 or 3 plays long. That will tire you out very quickly.

There cant be patterns when so many variables are changing. Its not just the other team, weather, stadium, injuries. The number of probabilities is infinite when you think about perspectives, whether so and so is fighting with his wife, so and so's father just died, this guy's kid wants the GI JOE doll with the Kung FU grip, which I cant blame the kid. KB, I m just scratcching the surface with variables here.

What youre doing cant be done, there is no pattern that will accurately predict anything for you. Instead why not explorer How Cam runs the most difficult offense  in the league and why.

AIr Coryell with a QB that can tuck and run middle will not be duplicated anywhere in the league, it cant. Furthermore, because we run Corywell and take deep shots, our offense takes less risks with bigger payouts. The problem is that you see 15 for 30 on attempts. . . but it was for 300 yards.

Its not the receivers, the blocking, or any other nonsense experts say that keeps Cam's numbers the way they are. Its the system, the most difficult one to run in the NFL and therefor the most unpredictable and deadly. . therefor the most difficult to defend.

STATS BE DAMNED, they dont matter.

If the guy just likes stats why try to poo on it?

let it be, it's different, and no one else will put together an in depth statistical analysis of our team.

Rock on KB.

PS: if I could choke one person it would be the guy that invented math/stats so I'm not exactly what you would call a numbers guy. :)

Dude, whether you're right or wron, you're stealing KB's thunder. It's kind of a dick move when you could just be saying all this in a personal message to her. Let her do her thing. It's a hell of alot better than any PU bullshit.

Keep Pounding @KB_fan. I, for one, thoroughly enjoy these threads.

Of course, for those of you whose eyes glaze over at all these numbers, there's a TL;DR version.  There are only 2 numbers that REALLY matter so far....

9 & 0

Keep doing your thing KB. I (we) may not respond every time but I can tell you it's appreciated.

I never realized how many offensive possessions we have per game. I'd be interested to see where each drive starts, so you can see how much the "Cam is supported by his defense" narrative fits into play.

That data is easy to add.  I'll see if I can do an update tomorrow.

Anyone slamming this guy for using his free time to do something he enjoys, and then SHARE that work with us for our enjoyment (or to just stare and drool at)is a serious asshole.

I'm a fellow stats guy myself so I appreciate the numbers and love the analysis you throw out every week.

Keep up the good work. And haters go fug yourselves

    • I think they are holding back to see what they have in the young guys, but I think it's a near certainty at some point they will bring someone else in. Right now (assuming we keep 5 CBs which is normal), the top 5 IMO are: 1) Jaycee Horn 2) Mike Jackson 3) Chau Smith-Wade 4) Shemar Bartholomew  5) Akayleb Evans   Obviously Jaycee is the alpha in that room and paid as such. Need him to stay healthy and continue to play at a Pro-Bowl level. Mike Jack did pretty well all things considered last year, and they gave him lower-level starter money. Fair deal for both sides.  Smith-Wade showed some promise as a slot CB. I think low-key he's a lock for the team. Different size and skill set than the other CBs. Shemar Bartholomew was the most sought after waiver claim last preseason. Was 5th CB most and inactive most of last year. Had a few defensive and ST snaps. Nothing of note good or bad but too small a sample size to make any judgment. Akayleb Evans was a 2022 4th Rounder for the Vikings. Has started 19 games (including Week 18 for the Panthers) in his career and played in 43. Was pretty good in 2023 before getting injured and falling down the depth chart last year. There's some other guys on the outside looking in, but until they show more in training camp I dont see anyway they make the 53. And only Jaycee, Mike Jack, and Smith-Wade are locks to make this roster IMO.
    • Was just reading the Ask the Old Guy story on the team's website and was shocked to see that only two 2nd Rounders have signed so far, 30 of them haven't. That isn't normal, the Texans really screwed things up for the rest of the league, no other explanation that I can think of for 30 of the 32 picks to still be unsigned at this point.
    • They need to address CB before season starts. This is not going to cut it.
