Wow.  WHAT. A. WIN.

The stats & superlatives are going to be LONG from this game.  There are many.   Unfortunately I have VERY VERY little time in the next few days.  Very busy work week before I get on a plane and head to Charlotte before Christmas...

So this may be a very short thread.  But there are a lot of others picking of the slack.  There are already some good posts here with key stats from today's win.  But I'll post a few things of interest tonight.

Best stat of all 13-0.  A new level of victory for the Panthers.  No Panthers team has ever won 13 regular season games.  So, that's something pretty special.  As was the shutout.  Don't think we've ever shut out a division rival?  But I could be wrong on that.

Oh, and yeah, we've locked up a bye, so THERE'S GONNA BE PLAYOFF FOOTBALL IN CHARLOTTE ON JAN 17!!   YES!!!!

Thanks for the early Christmas present Panthers!  Love this team.  Stay healthy, heal up, Keep Pounding.

We shut out Tampa Bay in 1996.

Yesterday I posted a graph in the Wk 13 Stats & Analysis thread showing our point totals for & against for the season so far.  Here's an updated look including today's win.  I can't get enough of enjoying these amazing stats for our offense - currently the #1 offense in terms of points scored in the NFL!

Person has a nice write up re: Ted Ginn's role in the game, and our surprising offensive speed at times and how that matches with the "ground & pound" offense so many typically associate with the Panthers:

The Panthers have scored at least 33 points in five of their last six games to become the league’s most prolific scoring team. Carolina is first at 31.6 points per game, pending the Sunday night game between New England (31.2) and Houston.

But the Panthers also entered Sunday leading the league in time of possession.

“Obviously we’ve been a keep-the-ball, take-possession-of-the-clock, give-the-defense-some-rest (offense). That’s definitely been our formula,” center Ryan Kalil said. “But we want to put points up on the board. So however we get them, we’ll get ‘em. Whether they’re quick or long and drawn-out, grind-them-out (drives). We’ll take them that way, too.”

Panthers coach Ron Rivera said the Falcons came out aggressively on defense, putting as many as eight players near the line of scrimmage. That created some favorable matchups in the secondary.

Helped by Ginn’s two long grabs and a season-long 44-yard run by Stewart, the Panthers rolled up 260 yards and 21 points in the first quarter. It was the most yards by Carolina in any quarter in its history, and the most by an NFL team this season.

    • if Jaycee gets hurt we are screwed.  I know the board thinks we are another year away, but I think we're closer, and I'd love to get a FA corner.    Constantly losing destroys a teams confidence and desire.  Winning helps build the team...the lockerroom gets confidence, and energy breeds off that.  I think the team will develop more as a unit when we win more.  And that will move us forward exponentially.   The Saints comment after we beat them the second time last year...."that's not the same team we played earlier in the season" is true.  The players bought into Canales, even those who went through the Rhule bullshit.  We just missed out on beating the defending Super Bowl champs last year.  Our WR and RB rooms are stacked.  Our big problem was the DL and we certainly addressed that this year.    Go ahead and build on defensive depth, get another CB.  Let's go for a winning record this year, it will help build our culture.  Finally a new culture.  It's been missing since Riverboat.
    • Yeah we would just hate a guy who put up 3900 yards 28 tds just a year off an Achilles injury. I'll just point out that Rodgers yards and TDs last year exceeded Joe Flaccos CAREER BEST season in his prime.
