McDermott to Philly speculation already starting

Here's a scenario that won't make me popular, but is a real possibility.

McDermott gets hired as Eagles head coach, and asks Ricky Proehl to be his offensive coordinator.

The Panthers could block it if Proehl is under contract, but nobody has any info on the contract status of coaches.

I wouldn't think Proehl would go with McDermott. I mean he could, but if we are going on hypothetical scenarios I'd say it's just as likely Shula leaves as McDermott, thus creating an OC vacancy of our own for Proehl to slide into.

Lateral moves don't happen all that often.

I too wonder if McD would return to a place that treated him the way they did.  Also, the roster/personnel/contracts resembles a dumpster fire that Chip set in motion two seasons ago.  A good young WR core, but QB issues and an aging RB that isn't the same behind that brilliant Dallas offensive line.  Defense has an oft-injured LB and a secondary that is overpaid.

That being said, he makes too much sense there given his past and his name couldn't be any hotter than it is right now. There are deficiencies to our defense that we know about, but the top teams usually get poached, and again, the Philly connection is too logical.

I'd feel very confident in Wilks taking over the helm.  I'm a huge McD fan, but Wilks and Rivera will keep this defense afloat.  Throw in a 1st round DE/SS and/or a top flight FA at either position as well, and this defense should hopefully not skip a beat.

Did they not watch the last two games?  I'm not that worried.  I think Rivera has his hand in the defense enough to where this wouldn't be huge.

And I doubt Proehl is going anywhere.  Outside of this message board no one else thinks he's that amazing.

Doesn't matter so much what everybody else thinks. What'd be important here is how McDermott feels about him.

Don't know McDermott would go to Philly after how they screwed him over before. Plus given the recent firing of Kelly after only a few years would make me wonder if I would be given the time to turn everything around. They might want him but I wouldn't be too excited to take that job.

To be fair, "they" didn't screw him, Andy Reid did.  Reid needed a scapegoat to hang onto his job.  McD was his fall guy.  McD is partially to blame though.  His D's performance made him a believable fall guy.

And then replaced him with an OL coach.

Boy, was that a mess.
