Thomas Davis: 15-1 meaningless without playoff wins

“It’s very gratifying,” Davis said of the most successful regular season in team history. “But it means nothing if we can’t win in the playoffs.”

“It’s a great feeling to be 15-1, something that I’ve never been in my career and anybody in this locker room hasn’t been 15-1. It’s good to share that with our brothers, with each other,” Davis said. “At the same time we know we can’t lose sight of what we’re trying to accomplish, and that’s ultimately to win the Super Bowl.”

Chris McClain is debating whether or not fans should feel this way on WFNZ.

Can't argue with Davis. It's been a heck of a ride so far, but to get knocked out before reaching the big dance? That'd be like the car breaking down 50 miles away from Disney World. At this point, getting knocked out of the playoffs early would be remembered more than going 15-1. It'd hurt bad.

I feel like that is how you want the players to feel and how they should feel.

I dont expect us to lose, but if we do, as a fan, it shouldn't take away what has been an extraordinary season.

We all want the Super Bowl.  That is the goal.  But I am also not one of those fans that says "If we don't win the Super Bowl this season was a failure"

I'll say this...

If, God forbid, we lose in the playoffs (especially in that first game) this place is going to see a meltdown of epic proportions with people ready to bench/cut/fire everybody from the owner on down.

I really don't want to see that.

I'm not sure I'd even look at the Huddle for a week...

...at least.

Super Bowl, or 15-1 means nothing.  Ask the Patriots how 18-1 feels from 2007.

That's a little different. They were headed for immortality and were an Asante Samuel dropped pick and David Tyree helmet catch away from pulling it off.

More appropriate would be that 15-1 Packers squad that ended up losing to a red hot wild card Giants team in the divisional round.

Look, honestly, right now, being 15-1 is bitchin. Most teams haven't ever had a record that good. But the ultimate goal is to win in February. Once the Panthers do that, we can look back at a beautiful season and jack off to that regular season record as much as possible. I know I'm certainly gonna.
