Cam Just Said Coaches Were Conservative

Also of note, when Cam had to use our second timeout late in the game, seemingly because the playcalls were coming in super late to try to milk the clock, he was visibly pissed going to the sideline and someone said some thing to him...  Cam ripped his helmet off and yelled,"I can't keep my f*cking cool when" ... and then the sound faded out but it sounded like "when you aren't getting the play in."

It is fuging frustrating.  You dont make a dtatement in a half, you do it over an entire game.  It feels like a macro version of Ron's early struggles with 3rd and 4th down conversions his first two years.  He knew what would happen, but he kept doing it until he had no choice.

Also, notice our greatest offensive success comes when Cam is running his no huddle and gets the play in early so that he can get to the line, assess the defense, then make adjustments as needed....  our success comes with Cam's autonomy.  Without it, we fail.

I dont know how many times i counted us breaking the huddle with 9 seconds left in  the play clock...  Cam was given no time to make adjustments and it showed. Ron has got to remedy this going forward.

Every Panther knew that. He was saying what we already knew. We have got to stop this conservative bullsh*t ON BOTH SIDES when we get up.

BUT, we fuggin won so hard to complain about it.

we won...until we don't...just hope we keep getting lucky...through the Superbowl or there will be a lot of "I told you this was going to cost us" everywhere...lol

I'm more worried about the defense giving up 3rd long after 3rd and long than conservative offense.  Some of those 5-6 minute drives were helpful even if they didn't result in points.

The problem is they were giving it up by design.  That's what has to be fixed.

Honestly, I think they didnt want Cam to throw a INT. We dont have the best WRs in the world and SEA is really good with that.

That's probably true. Just about every lead we've given up this year has included a Cam Newton INT. As good as he is, he still takes crazy chances sometimes.

Exactly, why risk it! It's a risk for EVERY QB. People want stats while assuming the most important stat, the W, is a given!

Just Win baby, no matter if it isn't sexy

You can be aggressive while being conservative. It's all about risk assessment. Don't blow this into too much. Playing this style of ball is the ultimate compliment for Cam

Making a conscious decision to take the ball OUT of the NFL MVPs hands is "showing confidence" in him.

One helluva odd way to do it.

I honestly think that this is it. The plan we called.. conservative as it was... was based upon the fact that we were up 31 points heading into 30mins of football with the receiving corps we have. With Olsen out a bit I think our blanket went with him.. we ran the ball (again, yes, conservatively) but knew that with our D that 31 points was too much for Seattle to overcome.

End of story really. As much as I hate that we did it it's not the end of the world and we have a home game again against the Cards to advance to the SB.

Simple as that.

What encourages me about this is that Rivera lets his players speak their minds to him. Our offense had reasonable play calling for the situation. What I was most concerned and disappointed about was the marked change in our defensive approach. Whereas we were playing tight coverage, swarming to the ball, and wrapping up well in the first half, in the second we stopped doing all that. Our pass rush actually showed up this game, and then the play calling left them out to dry by playing soft on the receivers.

In the end, I trust Rivera over anyone in the media or on this board. I'm just as concerned as y'all. But we've won 16 games playing this type of football. We are about to fave a quarterback that is a statue in the pocket. The only thing I'm worried about for next week is our weakness in the secondary. Kurt Coleman didn't have a good game today, and Robert McClain could only do so much, even though he gave his best effort
