Why Dave Gettleman isn't GM of the Giants

We're all read the articles about getting the right chemistry in the locker room.  I loved Steve Smith but when you see how the leaders on this team have emerged and "we hold each other accountable" mantra of this team.  Getting the right players in and getting the wrong players out are equally important for the success we've had this year.

Dave Gettleman is a football genius. His combination of experience, wisdom, intuition, patience, and smart leadership is exceptional. Add that with his winning philosophies (hog mollies, big men allow you to compete, BPA draft strategy, etc.) and Gettleman really is one of a kind. Finding guys like Norwell, Remmers, Oher, Ginn, Coleman, etc. for bargain bin prices gives the Panthers such a leg up over the rest of the league, especially with the salary cap designed to create parity.

No team in the NFL has the combination of key pieces the Panthers have.

  • Gettleman's ability to scout and evaluate talent.
  • Rivera's ability to motivate and develop players
  • Cam's skill-set and intangibles at the most important position on offense
  • Luke's skill-set and intangibles at the most important position on defense (at least for 4-3 teams)

I'm excited for the next decade of Panthers football.

Seriously...is there a team that has a brighter future than the Panthers?

Not that I care but there were people suggesting at the time (when looking for reasons to complain) that Acorsi just hooked his buddy up. Well, in a way that was true based on this.

Not really unusual. The NFL is definitely one of those businesses where who you know is just as important as how good you are at your job.

That said, Accorsi can only correctly be said to have gotten his foot in the door. He still had to win the job.

I must admit, I really didn't GET IT with this guy in the beginning. I questioned most of his moves with the 'ole fashioned head scratching. What turned me around was the signing of Michael Oher AND last year's draft. He actually signed a lineman that was actually drafted to help protect Cam's blind side. The first two picks of the last draft, though every media head was confused about them, actually made so much sense to me. Shaq Thompson and Devin Funchess are going to be heavy contributors to this team for years to come. Thank you big Dave for changing my mind on how you guide this ship to many more championships to come!

As long as Cam Newton, Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert, Greg Olsen, Ryan Kalil, Luke Kuechly, Thomas Davis, and Josh Norman were healthy and running this team week to week, they could plug and play anyone else on this team with the coaches getting out of the players way on game day and they would be in the same position.

It never mattered who the GM was for the Panthers as long as they did not gut certain positions to set the team back. The team came close to that in 2014 due to management.

Just like the Giants. They were set up by Accorsi. It did not matter who the GM was after that for 5 to 6 years. The test came when Accorsi's players were being replaced and losing their leadership. Jerry Reese is garbage and his decisions have brought the Giants down. It will only get worse.

Funny how all those guys were here before Gettleman and we were still not making the playoffs.

Does anyone remember the other three candidates? I think two of them were Marc Ross and Brandon Beane.

The other options were Marc Ross, Lake Dawson, George Paton and Jim Popp.

Pat Yasinskas pushed the idea that Beane was in contention and Joe Person parroted him. When the process was over, it was learned that Beane was one of the people helping with the search. He was never actually a candidate himself.

I might follow up on what's happened to the other since then just for the heck of it.
