John Fox’s stunning betrayals help set up an epic Super Bowl 50

It is fair.  It is true.  Fox wanted out and was spiteful about it.

Not that I care all that much.  He was a buffoon on the sidelines camel chewing that gum and clapping after turnovers.

Bad pressers, poor player management and even worse player development.

All in all, Fox just sucked.  He fooled us for years until the curtain was pulled back.

Agree. Guy had to slurp on some water after every sentence out of his mouth. Almost as annoying as the old ladies popping their chewing gum over here

Poor babies! Someone can't lick their own wounds because of all the salt.

I guess that this is a case of letting  a Fox in the henhouse. :)

At least as it pertains to our side, there were many dynamics in play for our 2010 season, and I can't put it all on John Fox. It is what is is, and he has been the furthest thing from my mind this week, and the last five years.

I think Fox not getting the contract extension and his last season displeasure with personnel changes spoke for itself. I thought there was speculation he was exploring other coaching gigs before the start of his last season in Carolina. I can't say he tanked but in reality he didn't have much to work with.

Overall considering we had a coach that simply refused to wear a headset I welcomed Fox when he first came to the organization. My only issues with him was how conservative the offense was, but I applaud his efforts strongly the season in which we were so depleted they relied on Nick Goings.

Fox definitely had a large part of the 2010 debacle. His attitude towards mangement, the media, and the fans, especially as the season wore on, was inexcusable for a guy making 6 million dollars. He should have sucked it up and done his job. But there were a multitude of factors in play with the looming lockout, dumping bad contracts, and IMO management being totally cool with tanking to get a high draft pick (although at the time I think everyone assumed it was going to be Luck and not Newton).

Fox was a great coach for this organization from 2002-2008. He turned this franchise around from a low as bad as it could have been. The Panthers were an embarrassment on and off the field in 2001. The 2003 and 2005 playoff runs were amazing.

However, I understand JJR's frustration with the lack of back to back winning seasons. As great as 2003 and 2005 were, the failures in 2006 with the talent the Panthers had was unacceptable.  I think that was the beginning of the end. I don't think the 2008 Playoffs could have been salvaged due to Delhomme's meltdown,  but Fox's coaching in that game was horrendous too. Not putting Gamble on Fitzgerald and doubling him was pure arrogance.

In retrospect, Fox should have been fired after 2008. Oh well, life goes on.

I will always appreciate Fox for what he did to restore the fan base and credibility of the franchise. And ultimately, had it not been for the debacle of 2010, the Panthers never would have gotten Newton and been here now.

And I can't really speak for Fox in Denver other than to say what he did with The Golden Calf of Bristol in 2011 was remarkable and what he failed to do with Manning in 2012 was equally atrocious.

Entirely on Richardson

Not really.

Fox didn't deserve the kind of extension he wanted, and thank God Richardson didn't give it to him. No way we'd be where we are now if he had.

More than one person who went to a Panthers practice that season described Fox and his staff as just 'going through the motions'.

He knew he was out. The assistants knew they were out. And the players suffered for it.

It was Richardson that dumped the roster and didn't extend anyone. Would have been a nice way to get out of cap hell quicker.

Fox had his chances, and ultimately it's his fault that Richardson scorched the earth. Considering our success now maybe it's what was needed. I still don't like how Richardson claimed he never imagined a losing season.

Granted, but Fox could have given it his best effort.  Then he might have still have been around after the lockout never happened and Marty Hurney was allowed to spend money like he was playing Monopoly.

And honestly, I have no trouble believing Fox did what the article suggests to the Broncos.  Heck, many people here suspected that at the time it happened.

Bottom Line: We're better off.
