NFL Owner Drama: Jerry Richardson a Bully?

This is a very long article about the drama between the NFL owners when talking about a move to Los Angeles. http://espn.go.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/14752649/the-real-story-nfl-owners-battle-bring-football-back-los-angeles

Quote

Richardson flew his private plane to visit several owners. Everyone around the league called it the Jerry Tour. He insisted that Carson was the better site and that the league not only would regret leaving St. Louis for a second time but would set an awful precedent by turning away the estimated $477 million in public funds for a new stadium that the state of Missouri was poised to offer. At times, Richardson's hard-charging style, delivered with a threatening tone and citing favors he had done for them, offended some owners. "He bullied people," a team executive says. "Some were turned off by his forcefulness."

The way I read it, Jerry wanted to keep the game experience pure for the fans. Open air over dome, parking lots for tailgating vs. enclosed parking garages.

I read it that Jerry wanted to reward an owner who was a loyal servant to the NFL, like him, and that he didn't want to set a precedent for turning down a ton of public money. Public money is how he helped finance the BoA upgrades. He doesn't want that cash faucet welded shut when it's time for more upgrades to BoA or a new stadium.

He's a great owner for the Panthers and I thank him for bringing the NFL to the Carolinas, but he's just a self serving as the rest of them. You don't get to his position without being so.

It's funny owners are complaining about a man calling in favors.  I guess when they were receiving those favors it was given freely with no expectation of anything ever being asked in return.  It's like helping a buddy move his 4 bedroom house all damn weekend but if you ask for a ride home from the airport, he bitches and moans like you're asking for his last breath of air.  Sheesh!

When a grown man can fire his kids from his business (one of which had cancer), it is pretty obvious he is like the present day Don Corleone, business above anything else.

Maybe he didn't want his kids to ruin his NFL franchise. I don't pretend to know the inner workings of the organization or Richardson, but IMO an owner like Jerry Jones is business above anything else. Our Jerry seems to care a little more about character when it comes to who plays for the Panthers, so I'd have to give him the benefit of the doubt.

    • When a team has EXPECTATIONS you have to show them that your fandom and praise is EARNED.  People would be mad if the they lost two one goal competitive games like 2023 but they wouldn't have gotten booed out of the building because the effort and competitiveness would be there but to lose in THAT fashion at home with your entire top line going free lance and saying fug this yeahhh.
    • Well with back to back road games to open the season again we really can't afford a "slow start" at least not for the psyche of the fanbase that is already at rock bottom from years of losing. I think that will depend on our approach to preseason this go around. But I do agree the makings of a culture change could be big for us. At the same time we heard talk of this last year and then we got the doors blown off multiple times. I can agree with you it's best to try to maintain perspective until we get closer to the midway point of the season. The main things I want to see early on even if we aren't necessarily winning is spark and toughness from the offense and defense and at least keeping games close.
    • First goal hmmm im going with Verhague
