Oline Backup Chris Scott signed to 1 year deal

I assume for the vet minimum with the maximum allowable signing bonus, but great move even if it's a little more because he is a solid and versatile backup G/C. I wouldn't want him as the starter but for a backup he is as good as you can realistically expect. Filled in well when he had to this year.

Gettleman has so far stuck to my exact script as for what I thought he would do this offseason. Then again all his moves have been pretty obvious.

Velasco is 31, I think he's gone.  Amini probably wants too much money, probably have to head to the draft, or FA for backups this year.  Scott is a mediocre backup, but he suffices I suppose.

Velasco is a "sign for vet min and compete for a spot in camp" guy. If he doesn't make the team as a backup C then we've still got him in the area to call in if we need a midseason pickup due to injury like we did this season when Kalil got dinged up. That's how I'd approach him.

I agree about Amini. Offer him the minimum, but let him go if someone else offers more. Inability to stay healthy makes offering more too much of a risk.

Who would offer Amini more than vet min? His track record in the NFL is pretty horrendous. I want to keep him to compete in camp and I think we will for the min.

Somebody will, he's young, potential, etc.  Always a reason a team will overpay.

He's going to be 28 this season, hasn't shown much potential at all, and played D2 college football. Nobody will overpay for him.

    • Basically agree.  He is the one of that bunch that offers upgraded pass catching along with he is supposed to be kind of special.   Then you have the OL and the ideas that if they perform you can have JAG backs and still do well. So okay we could be fine.  But Brooks is important and to me that receiving element sets him apart.  So there sure is something riding on him.     What strikes me as incongruent is people over in Atlanta or those that follow them look at Penix with a third surgery and act like it is no big deal.      And we are on pins and needles over Brooks.  Either they should worry a lot more or we should worry a lot less.
    • I usually go a game or two optimist over the consensus here but this is too early for me to say. I need to see some players on the field.  I am not feeling real optimistic though.
    • Okay as a ‘take CJ’ fan I actually don’t obsess over CJ and Houston, contrary to the narrative.  But I thought I picked up some noise that his OL left a lot to be desired.    Not a single Beyce supporter would judge him harshly if he had a crappy OL. We all know that.    So be fair about it.  A QB needs to be protected.  Especially a guy that gets to his spot and wants to finish the play from there. Which CJ is.
