G-man and Riverboat were not joking when they said they wanted to improve team speed 12 months ago.

  • T. Ginn Jr.
  • T. Williams
  • D. Byrd

I hope we can add Wendall. Then the team speed would really be crazy.

yea...that group could gas the piss outta the opposing DB's...payoff would be in the 4th quarter...

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm growing tired of all the interest in trying out WRs when we have Olsen, KB, Funchess, Ginn and Brown well-seasoned...with guys like Byrd and Hill waiting on the wings.

We have too many needs to be worried about fringe draftees, especially those who attended small schools also BBersin.

FA. BPA and bringing in our practice players.

I wouldn't classify doing your due diligence as "worrying", as much as I think that it's doing a thorough and outstanding job.

There is no room for having a lackadaisical attitude when it comes to building a championship team with yearly expectations of  real postseason aspirations. There is no room for resting on your laurels, particularly when you haven't reached the peak of the mountain. Finding gold among common stones is a great way to add to the wealth that leads to a Lombardi, but, perhaps more importantly, is a way to add depth and strengthen the foundation of a team's winning culture.

I think that this is true for all positions, much less one that let you down on the big stage.  Moreover, it fits in with using FA to set up the draft on some level.

I'm just sick and tired of the fanaticism that goes on around here as soon as we see a prospect that's fast, or big or any other intangible that seems the least bit appealing.

Well, TNS, it is a football message board...and it is draft season on the virtual eve of free agency. Many fans will do their "due diligence" as well, particularly on players that have been associated as a potential prospect of the team as draftees or UDFAs.

I haven't seen any fanaticism towards any player thus far in the off season.  A bit of talk re: Mario Williams, Eric Weddle, and a few possible draft picks, like Kevin Dodd.    Lots more talk about our own players - e.g. letting CJ go and Josh's franchise tag.

Now, Lee Ward during training camp last year.... THAT was fanaticism, LOL!

Ehh. Lot of fast aspiring NFL players. Need everything else to have a shot. I wouldn't sign a guy as a UDFA just because of speed unless I saw the potential in the other necessary areas. Don't forget we have Byrd and Hill competing this year, who are both freaks with speed.

Generally I agree with you.  Speed alone will not get this kid in the NFL.  In fact, if you look at the top 10 40 times in NFL history, only Chris Johnson's NFL best ever of 4.24 stands out as a player who has done well in the league.  And from what I read, the kid is small by NFL standards, 5-10 and 170lbs.  But 4.19 is dam fast.  It will at least get him several looks.

Well, arguably G-man, Rivera and Proehl must be among those people too---as well as Cam, who said it was a "big deal" when Hill was lost. They have all spoken to Hill's hard work, development and improvement as a receiver. In thus sense, unicorns must be real.

Give it a chance mate it's about 5 days into FA (well it is for me... needed a break after the last game we played)

He is smaller than Armanti Edwards or Corey Brown.  While I think its ok to keep looking at him, at 5-10 and 170lbs, he might get killed in the NFL.

I don't think he'd be more than a late round pick, but before his pro day I think it's fair to say he was tracking to go undrafted.

    • Nope, that’s not the disconnect. In 2022, our GM knew he was going QB in the 2023 draft. You are talking about risking fans involvement on a team that’s been basically bottom 3 in the NFL from 2018 to now. There is no risk when you are that bad. We were right to want Fitterer to tank in 2022 and get rid of anyone who could bring us big value and extra cap room for future years when we aren’t winning 2-7 wins a year. We knew we wanted a rookie QB so we didn’t trade assets for picks and get a better draft slot so we ended up only getting a 2nd for Burns and threw in DJ Moore plus an early 2nd instead of a 1st, which basically lost us an early 2nd. The “risk” to our franchise’s losing culture ended up being around 4 1sts of total value. Yep, I refuse to listen to the other perspective that lost us around 4 1sts of value. At least our fan involvement is so high that our stadium isn’t chock full of visiting fans since we’ve won so much since 2022. Again, you won’t change my mind that we should have tanked in 2022 and had another 2-4 Browns/Horns on this team.
