A) Doctson definitely has a higher ceiling than Funchess and maybe higher than Benjamin.  and B) he is by no means a younger Cotchery.  He's a slightly slower version of Amari Cooper or slightly less overall athletic version of AJ Green.  If Doctson goes somewhere that they throw him the ball he'll have better numbers his rookie year than Cotchery ever had in his career in one season.

A. No.. both bigger players more physical with similar speed.. Higher celling for Funch and KB.. KB could literally be the most physically dominating WR in the league. . Are you serious. .

Let me just reiterate...my God I have never seen a board so confident in a group that literally ranked as one of the worst units both on our team and in the league: WR.

With the exception of Ted Ginn vs. the Falcons in Carolina (and that was only for the first quarter) can anybody argue that a WR or our WRs as a group carried our team to a victory? As a unit they were at least as responsible for the lost against Denver as our O-line was.

But the counterpoint is: we are getting KB back (and another year of Funchess)...he will prevent our WRs unit from once again ranking in the bottom 1/3 of the league in production!!!! I am as big of a KB fan as anyone and advocated that we drafted him long before we did, but KB is not prime Calvin Johnson. And of course, he IS coming off of a year long ACL injury. Even coming into this season, KB was not even a top 20 WR. Even going into this season with a completely healthy WR core, that core only potentially was a top 10 unit. Potentially. If KB took the next step, Funchess had a great rookie season, and Philly/Ginn could beat their one on one matches...only then would our WR unit potentially be a top 10 unit.

I am not saying we must draft a WR in the first round or go trade for Alshon. Hell, I am not even saying that we must even add a WR to our team at all...but this unwavering confidence some have in a unit that the past 4 years have been below average, at best, is confounding.

It is almost like if our WRs manage not to trip over themselves while running a go route or pop a perfectly thrown ball into the air for a turnover, some of this board would count that as good enough for the Carolina Panther's passing game (using WRs).

I think ppl are interested in watching the 4 young guys we already have develop before going out and getting more of the same type WR..

They only play with 1 ball right??

For the record, I'd LOVE to see more or better WRs brought in. Doctson, other high draft pick. whatever means they come. I just don't think it happens. The team will talk themselves into KB coming back, Funch/Philly getting better, GInn having a "great" year, and call it a day to see those guys grow and spend assets elsewhere.  And they'd be partially right to let the WR group stay as is.

Would love to see another dynamic/sure-handed WR in a Panthers uniform (what team wouldn't want that?)...but I'm more concerned with grabbing a dynamic pass rusher or 3.

hes  a crazy route runner and gets separation  and hes a deep threat as well

Route running can be learned so can getting separation.. And KB and Funch are deep threat because of their size and jumping ability. .

So other then stuff that can be learned what physically makes him different. .

Similar speed and the other 2 are bigger and stronger.

Is he fast or shifty??

Is he a special teamer?? PR or KR

I don't think this point gets brought up enough myself. KB will be coming into his 3rd year, and Fun Fun into his 2nd. With Philly there is a hope that he continues to grow both physically and mentally into a reliable #3. Who by the way is also coming into his 3rd year. I don't think we need to add another young buck into the mix just yet.

Then let's throw in a few more KIDS into the mix. You got Norwood, Byrd, and Hill who all need to get a serious look. We already have plenty of KIDS on the WR Corp. The good news is; We have a plethora of young talent at WR. The bad news; We don't actually know what we truly have just yet.

Which is why. IMO, we won't be bringing in any WR because we have to find out what we already have.

I truly believe the team wants Brown to grow into that slot receiver type role. He does a fine job out wide where his lack of size and physicality aren't a hindrance. But ultimately, if he could bulk up a bit more, to become more durable. I think the team would be ecstatic to have him running out of the slot.

If ANY WR is brought in. It will be for competition for that slot type role. But honestly, barring any unforeseen circumstances. I don't see us adding a WR this off-season.

IMO, KB & Funchess are the only locks at the moment.  Everyone else will be fighting for their job.  I also don't see us signing a receiver in the FA, not even a camp body.

If I had to guess, I do believe we'll draft a guy.  A few guys we could have our eye on are Will Fuller, Josh Doctson, Pharoh Cooper, & my favorite, Keyarris Garrett.

I would say KB/Funchess/Ginn/draft-pick/Brown, in no particular order, will be our guys for next year.  Byrd, Hill or Norwood on the PS.

I'm pretty adamant about us taking a DE in the 1st, but man, if this dude fell to us, then I would take him in heart beat.  D-line is deep this year, so it would be fine.

This draft has me all flumuxed. You can get pretty good D-line play, probably into the 3rd. You can probably say the same about DBs. So if you want a skill player, you'd better get him early. Especially if you expect him to contribute rather quickly.

On the other hand. If we are drafting KKs replacement, shouldn't we get him with a top pick? The better to assure he can be successful. Or the same with DE. If you are taking one, might as well get the best one possibly you can. Which means we won't get to the skill position until later. Is it worth taking a skill player, this year, in, or after, the 3rd?

Ginn Jr. is a lock. Philly is a lock. Everybody else has just as good a shot as anybody to make this team.

That said. At this point in time the Panthers are very happy with their WR corp. They are hoping that the faith they showed in these guys will be rewarded. That Hill will come back with a vengeance after being seemingly on the right track last year. They have shown remarkable faith in this kid. It would be great if he could shine. Game over. Corp. set.

Or Norwood, who is coming into that dreaded 3rd year. If he could "Get It", he could be that slot guy to push Corey. They saw something in this kid. Maybe this is the year he shows it. If he can take that next step, it makes us better.

After all the beating around the bush. Let me say. I agree with you. I would be extremely surprised if we brought in a Vet WR this year. To much at stake with the kids we already have. Hellz, I'd be surprised if we even added a WR this year. Except for that Vet we all want. We can still grab him.

tl/dr version. We all know Gman will upgrade any position any time he sees an opportunity. As long as the value is there, he will upgrade. The fly in the ointment is; Where it comes to the WR Corp., he really doesn't know quite what he really has. He dammed if he stands pat hoping for some development from his kids, and it doesn't work. He dammed if he brings in a Vet, and that Vet doesn't shine. Thus taking away some development time for some of those kids.

Now of course. If Gman stands pat, and 1-2 of his kids pan out. He gon be a genious...gineus...tops.

I can't imagine us looking to draft a replacement for KK.  I think we're signing KK to a long-term deal as part of our core.  Yes, he'll be very expensive, but I'm pretty sure DG believes he's worth it.

Now, do we also sign Star after his' 5th year option?  Not sure.  Love the guy.  Hope we can sign him, but he's a bit more replaceable, plus he's had the foot issues...  I could see us looking to draft a DT high who could potentially replace Star as one of our primary DTs.   In any case, we need a DT for depth in our rotation since Dwan Edwards was released and at this point we don't know yet if we'll be re-signing Kyle Love.

    • Regardless, Bryce Young would have fell no lower than 3rd overall.  My overall point still stands.  Teams miss on QBs all the team.  Do we deserve criticism for that?  Absolutely. However again the same mistake we made, another team (regardless of the team) would have made in the top 3.  Because finding a QB is hard and teams overdraft QBs every year.
    • This get parroted and parroted and parroted when in reality you simply have no idea if that is true, what we do know if the texans wanted him they could have moved up with chicago and then chicago would have traded again with either us or indy
