Panthers have "some interest" in former Packers DT BJ Raji according to ESPN

Would love if Gman picked him up, i know he is typically a 3-4 DT but imagine him and Short paired together! Also a good stop gap safety net if the Panthers arent able to keep both Star and Short.....

We need a guy that will do a dance on the D-line after a sack. I'm in.

0.5 sacks in the last 4 years combined(missed all of 2014 with injury so 3 seasons total). I wouldn't get your hopes up for much dancing.

I didn't say he would be the one doing the actual sacking...just the shaking and baking.

So you're saying he should come on the cheap?

That's not really his game. Raji, Soliai, and Love all fit the 1-tech mold in a 4-3, so they'd be expected to be the second-unit Star where they're mainly run-stuffers. He's not gonna break the bank, but I'm not sure I can see Gettleman paying him what he wants either.

I'm just wondering about possible draft implications. I'm also wondering what it means in reference to Coples playing for us. Does this squash that dream, or does it mean that they are actually considering Coples at DE (and not DT, as some suspected)?

    • I've shown you numerous comps for other tackles in the same age and talent range.  His contract, taking into account his age, health, etc.  is the going rate.  It's a fair deal. I've shown you examples of how long it usually takes to find even an average replacement.  Hell, look at every tackle that has ever started for the Panthers.  How many would you consider a success?  They are not easy to find. After everything we've done with this team since drafting Bryce why would we decide to let our best linemen go and add a huge question mark at tackle?   FA is a crapshoot in which any guy available will have cons/issues.  If not, they'll cost a fortune.   Outside of a first or maybe 2nd round pic next year it'll take a few years for a tackle to learn the position at the NFL level.  There are still questions about Icky. Every vet NFL player deals with maintenance.  Between the contract value and history I'm not overly worried about his knee.  I contend his knee issue isn't anything to be overly worried about.  It's not zero risk but it's an acceptable risk.  Every player we draft and every contract we sign has risk.  You're blowing up his own negative words about his knees and ignoring him saying he is healthy and the knee is a non issue.  You have a strong chicken little complex with this team.  Being he has always been a Panther they are very aware of any health issues. We paid now because now is cheaper.  If his knee was really an issue they would have waited.  That tells me it's not the issue you want it to be.
