Hornets vs. Pistons (7:30 ET, NBA TV)

Playoff Implications

Every game matters with just three weeks to go in the regular season. The Hornets have surged up the standings over the last couple weeks and enter tonight's game tied with the Miami Heat for the No. 5 seed. The Hornets have a 3 game lead over the No. 7 seed Indiana Pacers and trail the No. 3 seed Hawks by just half a game. The Pistons got a little more of a cushion in the No. 8 seed thanks to the Chicago Bulls' loss on the road to the New York Knicks. The Hornets and Pistons will come out extremely motivated with so few games in between the No. 3 and No. 9 seeds in the Eastern Conference.

All The Buzz

There's a reason the Hornets have surged up the standings over the last two months. The Spurs (21-3) and the Warriors (21-3) are the only teams to have a better record than the Hornets (19-5) since January 31. Charlotte has the third best defensive rating and the ninth best offensive rating during this span. Since the beginning of March, the Hornets have the fourth best offensive rating, which they displayed in the final three quarters of their big win over the Spurs on Monday. They're led by Kemba Walker, who has been unbelievable since the beginning of March with averages of 22.8 points on 44.9 percent shooting, 5.8 assists and 5.0 rebounds in 36.1 minutes.

TBH, we need to win this game because MIA and ATL have easy games tonight against ORL and MIL.. just keep winning

We get the Sixers twice coming up. It all evens out. Also have a Boston game in there too to control our destiny.

Only team with a comparably easy slate is Miami.

Could see this one being a loss because we don't play as well on the road, these teams are about even talent-wise, and this game means a whole lot more to a team fighting for a playoff spot as opposed to jockeying for position.

let's just not get off the bus next time...

I said this before - and then about 15 minutes later Cliff said it in a postgame presser - but it is worth repeating:
We are not a good enough team to come out with anything less than 100%.. there are probably only 4-5 teams that can come out and win on an 'off' night just based off talent.. we need to earn the W's.. Detroit has 104 pts right now with 9 minutes left in the 4th.. that says Defense was not high on our priority list..

Ugh, ima just GTFOH..

Yeah it'd be nice if we had a good enough defense to be able and clamp down when the offense sputters.  Building an offense was clearly a priority this past offseason away from the strong defense style we had.  The thing is, when we're on fire, we can beat anyone. These type of losses are frustrating however.

We obviously just didn't want to play or show up the other night against the Pistons cus we come out the very next night and completely dissect the Bucks.. I don't get it with this team

Well the Pistons are good, and the Bucks aren't...

    • Sure if you just blindly look at stats, you can pinpoint a couple areas that look similar. But come on man that's lazy analysis. Instead of throwing lower percentage throws, Dalton held onto the ball unconscionably long, leading to several of those sacks including that unthinkable one at the end of the first half, inflating his completion percentage. Bryce for all his flaws, does a pretty good job of escaping pressure and scrambling for 5 yards or throwing it away. Dalton's pocket presence was just so incredibly bad today, which led to both of his lost fumbles. If Bryce would just hold onto the ball and get sacked every 3rd play instead of throw it away or try a contested pass, his completion percentage would be 15 points higher than Dalton's today. And Bryce only had more yardage in 3 of 7 games? You mean when we played run heavy schemes in our wins, instead of Dalton being forced to throw all game cause we're getting blown out?  Look anyone is more than justified in arguing Bryce Young doesn't have the tools to lead this team to a super bowl. But he has been head and shoulders better this year than what Dalton showed today. That was just an abysmal perfomance.
    • 100% correct.    we also have a team that is completely incapable of responding to adversity. The first sign of trouble and the team just unravels. I think that says a lot about coaching more than anything. It can also be explained with the amount of youth we have playing key roles on offense and defense.
    • He's not elevating anyone around him and will never be that kind of qb. He is what he is. He will always need a good team around him to play his best. His best is not a game changer but game manager. If you accept that then you will understand what the outlook is going forward.
