Las Vegas Raiders

We may find out sooner than later they're relocating.  Check it out:

Quote

Raiders owner Mark Davis will be in Las Vegas Thursday when the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee (SNTIC) meets to discuss plans to build a 65,000-seat stadium near the Las Vegas Strip, and according to sources, Davis will offer a commitment to pursue a Raiders relocation there if financing for the $1.3 billion project is approved.

Davis is absolutely serious about targeting Las Vegas as the future home for his franchise, and sees the growing city as the ideal landing spot for the Raiders both locally and regionally.

In Las Vegas, the Raiders envision a home base that would enable them to tap into the furthest reaches of their fan base. Las Vegas would be their primary market, but its elements as one of the most popular destination points in America would be the magnet they use to draw in Raiders fans and season-ticket holders from across the country.

And they have some powerful people getting behind a stadium effort that might soon be their future home.

Sheldon Adelson of the Sands Corporation is proposing a domed stadium near the Strip through a public-private partnership. The preliminary financing proposal calls for about two-thirds of the funding to come from taxes on tourists.

The SNTIC will review tourism-related projects for possible state funding at this week’s meeting, with the stadium proposal being one of the projects being considered. The committee is expected to make a recommendation later this summer.

Davis’ appearance Thursday – and the commitment he is expected to make – could be a difference maker. Davis will leave no doubt his franchise will pursue relocation to Las Vegas if the stadium project is approved.

“It’s huge because the committee sees (the Raiders) are serious,” a source close to the situation, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told this newspaper. “And if (the committee) approves the funding, there will be no stopping the train.”

Good, the thing makes perfect sense.  They get out of that shithole and Vegas is perfect because you do not have to worry about moving into some other owner's backyard.

Jerry Jones should be a huge supporter of this as the next option would likely be San Antonio (which he does not want) and I am sure once he is on board there will be a lot of followers.

Funny, I always though the NBA would be first, although I also had them as the first with ads on the uniforms which I guess is happening, so I one for two.

It's one step closer to being so. This could end being a really good deal for the Raiders if it's approved. Las Vegas really fits the Raider image (the marketing team can have some Mad Max or Fallout-style promotions on some post-apocalyptic poo)

Why dont the A's and Raiders just build a super stadium together .. its not like there arent areas in Oakland that are nice

Neither teams ownership has the cash to get it done. California has been driven billions into debt by the Dems. Unless you have an owner like Kroenke in LA building it it ain't getting done.

    • They can get film of all the games? Every team? Wow! Who knew… Our games with them are big examples of why they are in  the CB market so hard.   It is the study they do getting ready for the games.  Preparing to play against is a little different than just analyzing film in scout mode. Deeper dive. Then you are analyzing post game too.  This goes to why players often change teams but stay in the division. The opponents know each other on a higher level.  Plus if you lost to us, you used to get fired. Now you have to trade your first round pick. Moving up on the world.
    • I honestly can’t believe this team’s turnaround this season. It’s surreal. Figured healthy we’d be fringe playoffs and with another lottery pick could finally turn the corner, but we don’t even need that. This group is ready. We haven’t played remotely well the last 5 games and yet still blew out 5 bad teams by 16+ each game like it was casual practice. We had a few solid teams with Kemba and Big Al but this is easily our best group since the original Hornets moved to NO. Man, what a shift in culture this new ownership group and front office has brought. So damn happy to see it after years of suffering and consistently meaningless games in this stretch of previous seasons.   Only 2.5 games out of the 6 seed, although Miami, Atlanta and Orlando have been playing well too. Gonna be a fun final stretch, hopefully we can get a top 8 seed at the very least. Celtics tomorrow will be a good test. Would be huge to keep the road winning streak up against a very hot top team on the 2nd half of a back to back. We’ve played Boston pretty well the last few years with much of this same group despite sucking so I do feel pretty good about it. Kon is due for a huge game coming off a few cold shooting games (although despite the poor shooting he’s been contributing well with defense, assists and rebounds).
    • It amazes me how underrated Horn has become after he finally was able to stay on the field. Sure last year wasn’t perfect but he was still a huge reason for our rebound defensively and I’d say he’s easily a top 10 corner. You don’t want to see Mike Jackson as our top corner. Any player is available for the right price but I’d be extremely hesitant to move Horn even for a big haul from LA.
