just having a group chat topic of where Shula ranks as a OC

I say top 5, one of my buddies not to be named (rhyslloyd) says fire him now he dont care...

what does the huddle think?  I know he has had a bad past but the dude turned the corner last season and showed he can use Cam the way Cam is designed to be used

Right now it's not broke so don't fix it. You could hire a genius OC and he could still screw things up.

Cam is a unique QB and can't be just plugged into an OC's pet system. He's also clearly going to change the play at times and the OC has to be OK with that, as long he keeps getting positive results.

He's called a lot of outstanding games, but too many horrific games (even last year) to be considered top 5, imo. He also still struggles to get a play actually called on time, leading to delay of game penalties.

He did a fantastic job last year.

Last year.

If he can do a good job again this year, then I'll be convinced he's turned a corner, but for now he's at best average trending upward.

That's pretty much the best way to describe it.  He's on the incline but needs consistency.  He'll have all the weapons he needs this year barring any injuries.

Shula ... The name alone can make you cringe and at the same time have some sympathy toward ... He's just like that one family member who just never quite fits in .. And if you can't think of that family member then it's probably you

    • Carolina Panthers rookie wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan is putting the league on notice early into his NFL career, and 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan is well aware.  “I think he’s a stud,” Shanahan told reporters Thursday. “He’s going to be one of the best receivers in this league sooner than later. He’s got all the skill sets to do it, and I think he’s just getting started.”  Through 11 games played, McMillan has racked up 748 receiving yards on 54 receptions. He ranks sixth in the NFL in receiving yards and leads all rookies in the category.  Carolina selected McMillan as the No. 8 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. San Francisco had the 11th overall pick.  Did the receiver out of Arizona catch Shanahan’s eye in draft preparation?  “Yeah, big time,” Shanahan said.  Shanahan also said that he thought the receiver would be taken well ahead of the 49ers’ draft position, but the team did their due diligence when scouting the best overall draft picks in the 2025 class. With McMillan off the board, San Francisco ended up selecting defensive end Mykel Williams with the 11th pick to bolster its defensive line. https://www.nbcsportsbayarea.com/nfl/san-francisco-49ers/kyle-shanahan-tetairoa-mcmillan/1893558/
    • Koochie is playing his best hockey yet so far but it’s a small sample size
    • In basically every win but Atlanta he's had 2-3 plays that were a big deal but he also was part of why we needed those 2-3 plays instead of just cruising.
