Kaepernick makes statement during National Anthem

This country is about change, stand up and help change it and the world. Wow the arrogance. Go to China, North Korea see what people are doing to their own people.

Are we perfect? Hell no! But we can't change without all of us working together.

I think it's a hell of a stretch to say it's "courageous" in any way to refuse to take part in the national anthem.

If you want to talk courage, then recognize the individuals actually making an effort to bring about real change in our country, and the world itself.

Colin isn't changing poo, he's making it about himself.

Like it or not, professional athletes have a bully pulpit in this country, just like all the other entertainers. Many people, particularly young ones, look to them as role models.  Many athletes, especially the more popular ones, can do more with a few words, or small acts such as this one, than most are able to do in a lifetime. Plus, no one is privy to everything that Kaepernick or any other athlete does. At least we see what they do as a part of their social obligations of just being an NFL player. That has to stand for something.

This is the perfect response

The national anthem was written at a time blacks were still slaves, so all that "patriotic" stuff in that anthem doesn't really apply to those whose ancestors were still being oppressed at the time the anthem was written. I always stand and take off my hat, but to look down at a black man for not doing so is ignorant.

Stand for words that shout out the "land of the free" when that land was still home to slaves. So whose freedom are we talking about here?

The making-it-about-himself narrative is so elementary.  What does he really have to gain by doing that? Nothing.  He took a stand, pure and simple.

The reason why the athletes are supportive of him is because they identify with him. You may belittle what he's done, but they aren't.

ya know this country also ended slavery, almost world wide? As I said, we are not perfect, no country is. Who cares when the words were written, are they not true?

Honestly, I don't give a rats ass about what he does during the national anthem.

I take issue with you acting as if him doing so is on par with him running into burning buildings and saving helpless children or something. That logic is fuging horrendous.

"Golly Gee did that colored boy criticize the flag and the good ole boy nation of the USA by using his FREEDOM of speech, send that ungrateful piece of poo back to Africa. He should be grateful his people were even enslaved to be apart of a great nation like this"

That's really how some of y'all sound. But I'm going to let y'all have it lmao, not going down this path with some of y'all today.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
