We cut Love? Why? I haven't seen Soliai push anybody around. Love looked better, but oh well.

Although preseason hasn't showed it I expect Soliai & Butler tandem to step up big time in the regular season. Panther should aim to be  # 1 rush defense

I'm getting so sick of this "Well the coaches know better than you and blah blah blah blah". This is a god damn message board where people share opinions. Igo might as well shut down the huddle if we were to accept every little move this franchise makes. The exact samethings were said during the Hurney era too. Not saying Hurney and DG are the same, but people need to stop taking every move this organization makes as scripture and realize not everyone is going to agree.

Regis was on the Roster. I forgot about Colin Cole and Dwan Edwards. Edwards backed Short and Cole backed Star. Love is versatile but would have been useless on the team this year with Solilai and Butler coming off the bench.

Here is Regis' biography: http://www.panthers.com/team/roster/micanor-regis/4ea31980-0ec2-44c0-b56a-17d732ce5340/

He was waived during final cuts last year. He wasn't on the team..........

Cole was cut the day Star became healthy. He played 2 games.  Helps if you watch the games :)

Breaking down the Panthers' 53-man roster;

3 Quarterbacks

4 Running backs

6 Wide receivers

3 Tight ends

9 Offensive linemen

5 Defensive ends

4 Defensive tackles

7 Linebackers

9 Defensive backs

3 Specialists

Forty of the 53 were on the roster that lost to Denver in Super Bowl 50. Cornerback Bene' Benwikere would have been on that roster if he wasn't on injured reserve.

http://www.espn.com/blog/carolina-panthers/post/_/id/22133/panthers-cut-two-draft-picks-in-sanchez-sandland-but-keep-jeremy-cash-damiere-byrd

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Carolina Panthers made 22 player moves on Saturday, trimming the roster to the NFL-mandated 53 players. Here's a closer look at the final cuts:

Most significant move: The Panthers didn’t cut a draft pick in Dave Gettleman’s first three years as a general manager, but this year they cut two in fifth-round pick Zack Sanchez and seventh-rounder Beau Sandland. The release of Sanchez, one of three cornerbacks signed in Gettleman’s attempt to replace 2015 Pro Bowl selection Josh Norman, was most significant. Sanchez wasn’t a serious contender for a starting job, and he likely was no better than third in line at nickel behind Bene' Benwikere, Colin Jones or Robert McClain. But the Panthers like Sanchez and they’d like to sign him to the practice squad. Sandland never pushed Scott Simonson for the third tight end spot. He also could be added to the practice squad.

Most significant non-move: The decision to keep outside linebacker Jeremy Cash and wide receiver Damiere Byrd, both undrafted players. Cash, undrafted out of Duke this year, came in undersized but has beefed up 16 pounds to 220. He became a force on special teams. The reigning ACC Defensive Player of the Year has the athletic ability to be a Thomas Davis-type every-down player with his ability to blitz, cover and stop the run. Davis was a safety out of Georgia when taken in the first round of the 2005 draft, but he transformed into a Pro Bowl outside linebacker. Byrd was undrafted out of South Carolina last year. He returned after a year on the practice squad more polished as both a receiver and a returner, where he can help this team the most. He looks like a threat to break one every time he touches the ball. He’s arguably the fastest player on the roster.

Most surprising move: Second-year running back Brandon Wegher looked to be a lock on special teams after playing the second most to Cash in the last two preseason games. But to keep him would have meant keeping five running backs. There was no way Wegher would get on the field behind Jonathan Stewart, Mike Tolbert, Cameron Artis-Payne and Fozzy Whittaker. Carolina hopes to stash Wegher on the practice squad.

Killer Bs plus two: Wide receivers coach Ricky Proehl has been telling us how much deeper the position is this year than the past three, and the final roster is telling. Carolina kept six receivers, one more than they have in recent years. Kelvin Benjamin (6-foot-5), Devin Funchess (6-4), Ted Ginn Jr. (5-11) and Philly Brown (5-11) were givens. There wasn’t much doubt that Brenton Bersin (6-3) would be back, as well. Keeping

I love how people are already calling this a bad draft when none of the draft picks have played a single game yet. This is the Huddle, I guess.

Those 2 likely never cracked a smile last season. You have to take the who in to account.

    • Ok fair to judge only his starts.  But you do acknowledge that going from "he's waaaay above league average in a number of categories" to "here's a single stat where he's above league average (not "waaaay") and another where he is exactly at the league average" is a pretty significant backpedal, no?  I'm guessing he's probably in the ~10th range for completion percentage too if we're only looking at starts (I'm too lazy to isolate his starts and do the calculations), so I'll grant you that one too.  But I don't think completion percentage is all that meaningful as a standalone stat if it isn't bolstered by good TD%, Y/A, etc. On that note, for how much people like posting Passing Charts in here (*cough* CRA) - if you peep Shough's passing charts, he hasn't completed a single 20+ yard pass in the past 3 games combined.  His last one was in Week 13 against the Dolphins, which was a single pass of 24 yards.  I just want to be consistent in how we apply our standards - I think it's always been warranted to criticize Bryce for it (even dating back to his rookie season), but do we suddenly not care about that with Shough? And yeah I did acknowledge that Saints' fans have reason to be excited about him and complimented his poise, which is giving my props.  Still not sure I agree that he looks better than a "ton" of QBs nor do I think you or anyone have really demonstrated that.  I think you are generally one of the more reasonable level-headed posters which is why I'm confused at what I consider to be rather hyperbolic language about Shough.
    • I don't disagree with you, but want to point out that Tremble's strong suit has always been blocking. Case and point: on Horn's 25 yard run, he lays down not 1 but 2 nice blocks...and is looking for #3! https://www.panthers.com/video/jimmy-horn-jr-s-25-yard-run-gives-panthers-red-zone-access-on-first-drive
    • It is a popularity contest.  The selection does have meaning though. It is also 1 of the criteria that is considered for the HOF. The game does not have any significance. The team hasn't been to the playoffs in nearly a decade. That's why they don't get primetime national coverage. To the victors go the spoils.
