There's a hole in Superman's cape

There's a hole in Superman's cape; now, thanks to the Denver Broncos, the entire NFL is fully aware of it.  Up to this point, Cam Newton has looked invincible.  Rookie records? Of course. All-time NFL records?  Sure, already got those, too.  NFL MVP and Offensive Player of the Year?  Ditto.  Even significant injuries haven't been able to derail Cam: broken spinal processes from a car wreck, ankle issues...no problem for Superman.  But a hole has been discovered by the Broncos defense, and the rest of the League can now rejoice, since it means that there is a way to stop Cam and the Panthers from League domination.  And that hole is the ear hole on Cam's helmet.  Sure, every player has an ear hole in their helmet, but for the rest of the League, especially its starting quarterbacks, hitting that ear hole repeatedly is forbidden by the referees and the NFL rules.  Hit Tom or Russ in the ear hole?  You'll be lucky to escape with a roughing penalty or a fine, as ejection or a suspension looms overhead.  Not so with Cam Newton, and the Broncos just telegraphed that to the rest of the League.  Cam Newton, being the biggest and most versatile QB this League has ever seen, has been deemed "too big to fail" so to speak; you can't stop him legally, so hit him in the only weak spot he has: his head.  There shall be no recourse, at least not until well after the game has ended, and let's face the truth.  This League is about winning, fines and such be damned.  The players will take the win and the fine, thank you very much, and thanks to the whistle-swallowing by Gene Steratore and his crew on Thursday night, it's been shown that not even a fine may be forthcoming when it comes to tagging Cam's head.  It seems the League has decreed that neurotrauma to Cam takes a backseat to parity, since without an otherwise-exploitable weakness the Panthers could dominate for years to come: it's really the only explanation that makes sense when you think about it.  So go ahead, defensive players of the NFL, go ahead and aim for the one weakness that Cam has: his head, the hole in Superman's cape, as the NFL has just issued you a license to do so.

I would like to see the officiating crew get fined.  If they had to give up 20,000 out of their 100,000 dollar salary they might start doing their job according to their own policy.

You all wouldn't be as shocked if you looked up revenue sources.  The Carolinas may not have the economic capital to curry favor with the NFL power players, but we have the Internet, and if there's one thing that social media is good at [note:  not good/bad for] is effecting movement.  Doubt that's enough in the long run.  But at least will even the odds in the short term.  After that ebb, we still need to figure out our second move.

What I'd really like to see is those idiots forced to take a spear to the head so they can see how it feels.  Maybe if they fully understood, then they might actually pull that yellow thing out of their pockets.

The second move is to turn the game into an all out cluster fug, hand throwing fest on the field the next time Cam takes another one to the head!  That seems to be the only way to get a ref's attention when they are allowing a game to get out of hand.

I mentioned it in another thread, but it would be awesome to see a last minute concession to the 49ers.  Hate to do that to the home team fans, but man would that be the most epic statement.  People lose money on tix, and the NFL would get dinged BIG TIME on their television contracts.  Would be so fuging awesome.  I'd take the 0-2 start.

As a former international hockey player, I approve of this message. All kidding aside, one of the reasons I loved playing hockey is because we could police ourselves and settle poo on the ice. Hit our star? Someone is getting an ass-kicking. It works, even if some deplore it.

The sad/funny thing is Cam still led us down the field for the game winning score. Had there been better time and time out management we may have even been in touchdown position. So playing dirty didn't even really stop him, it just slowed him down.

 

all that being said, someone on offense needs to step up and start punishing the other team for the hits they put on Cam. It's unacceptable to do nothing after this game. The "rules" won't protect us. Our team is like the Ned Stark of the NFL, we need to stop acting like we have to play nice while everyone else is in the mud slinging dirt. We'll never get to the top unless we hit them back.
