9/11

i was a junior in high school living in morgantown, WV, studying for a chemistry test when it came on the news.

remembering the way i felt back then, i can only imagine how people feel now when confronted by war and political violence in their everyday lives.

i hope humanity progresses beyond this in my lifetime

I was working from home that day and my wife was home as well, having just been downsized out of a job. I walked through the den where the TV was on as they were doing the announcements of the first plane colliding with the World Trade Center.

I remember at that time they were still saying it was a horrible accident and they didn't even know how big of a plane it was or how many people were lost. I called my wife into the room and just moments after she arrived, the second plane hit the other tower. We were just poleaxed by what we had seen.

Then the phone calls started rolling in. Friends, family members, editors... everyone wanting to know if we had seen it, were we watching, what did we know, could they come over so as not to be alone, could we pray together. Then the collapses.. my heart still wrenches up thinking about it.

I was driving to work thru High Point and one of the morning shows was talking about a small plane hitting one of the towers.  Shortly thereafter, it became obvious that it was a passenger jet, then the second plane hit the second tower.

When I got to work we watched some of the coverage and decided to close up the office at about 11:00 am

On my way home I passed the High Point library and the Red Cross had a Blood Mobile set up.  I stopped to give blood.  Instead of a line they had so many people wanting to give that they were setting up appointments.  The next available appointment for me was 9:15 pm.

I always wrestle with this day. I try to do more helpful to others stuff or take some extra time to reflect.

I can NOT watch anything on this though.  I was leaving Asheville yesterday morning and sirius radio had the entire Today show broadcast on. That was so bizarre to hear. I heard a report of a car bombing at the State dept and they were scrambling to confirm but the part that made the hair on my neck stand up was when they got a breaking report of a 3rd plane on the way to DC was hijacked. I changed after that.

Shortly after i told my boss our teams were living our office in uptown whether she heard from mgmt or not i went home.

Met my wife later at the doctor for a sonogram on our 2nd kid. I was beside my wife while we kept watching all the news and just thinking what kind of world is this kid coming into?

I have never felt so scared amd confused and just disoriented in my life. I can still remember the panic and terror from people in the elevator at work trying to leave and i had no answers for them.

I can still remember putting my hands on mu head when the towers came down and my heart sinking.

Yet we are still aren't as close to each other as we should be.

I think maybe since I visited the 9/11 memorial this summer in NYC this anniversary hit me a little more.  Visiting that memorial was much more moving and profound than I was prepared for.

I've really been thinking a lot lately about the jumpers... those people had to make the choice of whether to endure that fire or jump to their deaths.  Just an insane thing to have to do on what otherwise would have been a normal Tuesday morning workday.

    • I have more faith in XL improving than I do in Tmac being a true number 1 recuever
    • Round 1. TMac arguably the best WR in the draft Round 2. Scour ton mentioned as a possible 1st round edge.     Texas A&M did not use him the same way Purdue did. After the 2023 season he was listed as a first round grade. I believe had Texas A&M used him like they did at Purdue he never makes it out of round 1. Round 3 Princely Umanmielen, we'll go by Princely.  Another highly graded player we got in a lower round. As the video suggests, even if he plays only on passing down it's a positive. Give him a couple of years to develop a he could be a three down player.  Round 4a Etienne IMO a huge upgrade over Blackshear. I can see him in a similar role as CMC without the heavy workload. He can run in between the tackles and has some shifty moves. Give Canales some flexibility. A fellow huddler pointed out UGA running backs don't see the field if they cannot pick up the blitz. Really good pick. Round 4b Ransom a hard hitting safety that has played three different positions on defense. Great pick Round 5a Cam Jackson a massive NT in round 5. I believe a solid rotational pick in a lower round. We added a beast that could make offenses quiver when he's lined up with Brown. Great Value  Round 5b Evans This is another player that can block and has good hands. He also had better seasons before 2024. As a rookie he's probably leaps and bounds better than Ian Thomas. I think he gives us a three headed monster at TE.  Round 6 Horn Jr. Many believe he's just going to be a KR/PR player. I believe there are going to be packages for him to get on the field as a WR. His speed with TMac and Thielen in the slot could be special. I'm really looking forward to seeing him in training camp. I've watched some film and he is very explosive.  Overall I love our picks. I honestly believe all of them will contribute this season. I don't believe we reached on one player in this draft.  This weekend we get a small look at these rookies
